On the sidelines of the World TB Day, we brought together parliamentarians from different countries for an important discussion on strengthening TB legislation. The meeting was organised at my initiative with the @GlobalTBCaucus. It was a pleasure to host parliamentarians from across regions, including Hon. Azhar Sagadykova and Hon. Guldara Nurumova (#Kazakhstan), Hon. Gulnara Batyrova (#Kyrgyzstan), Hon. Lorraine Nxumalo (#Eswatini), and Hon. Eva Monalisa (#Indonesia). We had a rich and honest exchange on the modernisation of TB laws —responsive to today’s challenges. We also discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence #AI in #healthcare, particularly in TB diagnosis, while recognizing that technology must complement, not replace a human care. A key highlight was the presentation of findings from the 2022 regional study on TB legislations in EECA led by Prof. Brian Citro, a well-known human rights expert and lawyer in Chicago (#USA) Law School. We concluded with a shared commitment - advocating for the advancement of TB laws. This is just the beginning — and I look forward to continuing this important work together. #WorldTBDay2026 #EndTB #StopTB #YesWecanEndTB

On #WorldTBDay I usually draw attention on behalf of the @GlobalTBCaucus to the 1.25m people worldwide who die unnecessarily every year from a disease which is preventable, treatable and curable. This year I’m also going to point out that the UK is now in grave danger of losing its @WHO status as a low incidence country for TB. Today the @APPGTB has published a report drawing attention to rising rates of TB in the UK — 5,490 cases were diagnosed in England alone last year, a 13.6 per cent increase — and the urgent need for a renewed TB Action Plan. #EndTB results.org.uk/wp-content/upl…

March 24 marks #WorldTuberculosisDay. #TB remains a major global health challenge, though significant progress has been made in combating it. Since 2000, global efforts have saved an estimated 83 million lives. Yet the disease continues to take a heavy toll: every day, more than 3,300 people lose their lives to TB, and over 29,000 others fall ill with this preventable and treatable disease. Millions still go undiagnosed or untreated. Access to #healthcare is becoming increasingly difficult in times of conflict. Injured individuals, displaced families, people living with chronic conditions, pregnant women, and older adults must be able to reach essential, life-saving services. On this World Tuberculosis Day, I hope for peace for all, alongside #HealthForAll. #WTD2026 #StopTB #EndTB @GlobalTBCaucus @WHO @healthgovaz Video credit: UN HLM on TB, NY, 2023.

The future of global #health #diplomacy depends on deeper collaboration between health and states’ #foreign #policy . In health, multilateralism is essential. Weakening global coordination weakens health systems— and viruses do not respect borders, sanctions, or political divisions. A world that underinvests in health today will pay a much higher price tomorrow. @GlobalTBCaucus
