Rather than call time on boys being part of a girls’ organisation - which was never supposed to happen - Guardian columnist Zoe Williams suggests the 'obvious solution' was a name change. 🙄 Quite apart from her dreadful “gender-neutral” name suggestions - KidGuiding or RangersRainbow - this isn’t how charities work. Girlguiding isn’t just a brand. It’s a charity with a defined purpose: for girls. You can’t simply rename it and carry on as before. Changing that purpose would require formal processes, consultation, and potentially regulatory approval. In other words - not a quick fix. Not a rebrand. And certainly not something you solve in a Guardian opinion column. Honestly ... Link to read below 👇

It's not being 'challenged' I can't stand. I invite challenge all day. This wasn't 'challenge'. It was a slow tedious death by way of pedantic language policing and purity testing from a tribe I don't want to be accepted by anyway.

I hit 'share' on a Sky News article today. The article's headline auto-populated in the tweet. The headline was 'Transgender girls given until September to leave Guides'. Being a committed public gender critical reporter, I took this to be good news. But I made the unforgivable sin of not deleting 'Transgender girls' or replacing it with the word 'boys'. And now the deeply obnoxious cliche of online Terfdom is mad with me for failing their purity test.

@DanniBrener @chrisboid I need to pretend I agree with you because you're a woman now? You think my issue with your responses is that you stand up for women and girls? Why lie like this when people can read what I've actually said?

I have been in a state of non-clinical depression since yesterday evening as the result of Arsenal having lost the Carabao Cup final. I have now resolved it. "It was only the Carabao Cup". There. Sorted.

In Margate. My cheeks are red. I am shaking. I popped into an exhibition that turned out to be the insane fever dream of an artist called Matthew Collins: ‘Drawings Against Genocide.’ The exhibition is described as ‘drawings… raising consciousness about hell…. Israel is the pure encapsulation of it. Zionism is this terror state’s ruling ideology.’ Shocked by the use of Nazi imagery - the room is full of the Star of David pasted around figures meant to be Israelis and the Jewish ‘lobby’ spewing blood, to say nothing of blonde yummy mummies wearing ‘globalise the intifada’ shirts, I spoke to the artist to share my reaction as a Jewish person. He was instantly aggressive. As soon as I started to say I was shocked and threatened by what I was seeing because it was Nazi imagery, the artist started yelling at me that I didn’t mean anything I was saying. Anytime I tried to speak (calmly) he said: ‘you don’t mean any of what you said, you’re just repeating ‘hasbarah talking points’ because ‘you’re defending a genocide’. On and on he yelled, in my face. I said: ‘if I was a Black person…’ but couldn’t finish the sentence because: ‘you’re not are you?’ On the Nazi ideology point he said: ‘yeah. Why do you think it’s there. Israel are the Nazis’. His breath was disgusting. The crowd began booing and closing in around me, making to shoe me out. I said: ‘fine, get the Jew out’ and he yelled more across the room at me, ‘repeatedly jeering ‘call the police, go ahead, call the police’. I said I would, and the community security trust, which features as a devil in his exhibition. This was met with even more jeering. ‘Yeah, call the CST’ was the last I heard before leaving. Someone snapped pictures of me while I was being shouted at. Short video shows the artist. The longer video, of our final almost surreally disgusting exchange, didn’t record.

If you're watching The Other Bennet Sister (and you should, it's bloody fantastic!), have you spotted that the actor playing Hill, the Bennet's kind, long-suffering housekeeper, is actually Lucy Briers, who played Mary in the iconic 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice? 🥹🥹

I loathe the Oscars. It’s so basic. And is why terrible films like this and Sinners reap all the rewards. PTA made a beautiful film, The Phantom Thread, which was over looked by judges in their final decision (even though it was nominated in 6 categories) because it contains nuance, subtlety and integrity. The only film I’m really rooting for is the documentary available on iplayer by Storyville called Mr Nobody Against Putin. It is a beautiful film where a teacher films everything in his school during the Russian/ukraine war and he has created it with the most incredible courage and tenacity. bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

Paul Thomas Anderson is the frontrunner to win Best Director at the Oscars. This would be his first-ever Oscar win after 14 nominations. See the full nominees list: bit.ly/OscarNoms26

As a Gen Xer, all these young men going mental because every single young woman isn't a virgin is just insane. Back then, M or F, straight, gay or bi, you WANTED someone who knew what they were doing sexually. The shame was being a virgin past 18* for us! *16 in the East Midlands
Madelaine Hanson@MadelaineLucyH

Don’t get me wrong younger millennial men weren’t flawless but I can honestly say that if an 18 year old boy insisted on dating a virgin while I was at school/uni absolutely everyone would have mocked him without mercy

The reason I'm a passionate trans rights advocate and campaigner is because most of my Trans friends don't want to have to be, they simply want to live their lives free of persecution, and I don't think that's too much to ask.
