African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Amb. @Bankole_Adeoye informed the 1341st Session of the #AUPSC on Peace Support Operations in Africa that AU #PSOs, designed to achieve peacekeeping objectives, currently face significant gaps in capacity, coordination, legitimacy, rapid deployment, and sustainable funding. He emphasized that rapidly evolving conditions necessitate a critical review of the #AU’s engagement in peace support operations to ensure it can effectively adapt to current realities.

Benefit-sharing is the new benchmark in Carbon Markets. Across 5 countries - Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe - community rights and transparent benefit-sharing have moved from "nice-to-have" to legal requirements, a major shift toward climate justice. A recently published comparative analysis by @ShamisoMtisi and Dr. @chantelle_moyo reveals how 5 African nations are shaping high-integrity carbon markets. Download: zela.org/download/a-com… Also in the report: ➡️Following the troubled Kariba REDD+ project, Zimbabwe's new regulations require 20% minimum community investment, establish blockchain-based registry transparency, and domesticate the UN's Sustainable Development Tool. ➡️With its 2023 Climate Change Amendment Act, Kenya now mandates 40% of carbon revenues from land-based projects go directly to local communities. Community Development Agreements are legally required. ➡️Zambia's Forest Carbon Stock Management Regulations require public inspection of project documents, including baseline calculations and additionality proofs. Only genuinely commercially sensitive information can be withheld, a model for balancing investor confidentiality with community accountability. ➡️The African Union's Biodiversity Strategy (2023-2030) and the First Africa Biodiversity Summit (Botswana, 2025) signal growing interest in payment for ecosystem services (PES) and biodiversity offsets. The report notes these could become the next frontier alongside carbon markets, but warns that legal frameworks must catch up. @theGCF @AfClimateSummit @climatenewsrom @FordFoundation @SwedeninZW @UNEP @UNFCCC @Obertbore

At its 1342nd meeting, the #AUPSC has considered the report on the Joint @_AfricanUnion, the Federal Government of #Somalia, and the United Nations assessment of progress against benchmarks for the AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (@aussom_) Configuration Plan. The PSC recalled the UNSC Resolution 2809 (2025), which called for an #AU-#FGS-@UN joint technical assessment to evaluate progress against the seven benchmarks guiding the transition of security responsibilities in Somalia and to inform the updated configuration of @aussom_. The assessment report will now be transmitted to the @UN Security Council for consideration.

SADC Parliamentary Forum
At the sidelines of the Women Deliver 2026 Conference, SADC Parliamentary Forum Secretary General Ms Boemo Sekgoma held strategic talks with Australian Labour Senator Lisa Darmanin, a prominent advocate for equal pay, women’s economic security, and action against family violence. During the engagement, the Secretary General underscored that patriarchy remains a persistent barrier in SADC Member States, despite notable legal reforms aimed at advancing gender equality and women’s leadership. The meeting brought together key global actors, including representatives from CARE International and women’s rights organisations, highlighting growing international collaboration to accelerate progress for women and girls. Earlier, the Secretary General joined delegates at the Conference’s official opening ceremony under the theme “Change Calls Us Here,” where leaders issued a collective call to realign power, resources, and responsibility to deliver justice for women, girls, and gender-diverse communities. The ceremony reflected strong political commitment to rebuilding systems that better serve vulnerable populations worldwide. #WD2026 #SADCPF #MakingCareCount

SADC Parliamentary Forum
Secretary General of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), Ms Boemo Sekgoma, has begun engagements at the Women Deliver 2026 Conference in Narrm, Melbourne, where global leaders have convened under the theme “Change Calls Us Here.” On the opening day of the conference, Ms Sekgoma attended a donor celebration breakfast as a guest of CARE International, one of the Forum’s key partners in advancing gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and the fight against child marriage and gender-based violence across the SADC region. In brief remarks, Ms Sekgoma reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary effectiveness, noting that SADC parliamentarians, as duty bearers representing citizens, must be adequately supported to deliver excellence in their legislative responsibilities for the ultimate benefit of the people. She expressed optimism that the conference would provide opportunities for meaningful collaboration and stronger partnerships in support of the Forum’s regional mandate. Speaking at the same event, CARE International Australia Chief Executive Officer Ms Morgana Ryan welcomed delegates to Australia and highlighted the conference as a unique platform for networking among like-minded institutions. She said the gathering would help cement existing partnerships while building new bridges for long-term cooperation. The Women Deliver 2026 Conference runs from 26 to 30 April 2026, bringing together governments, parliamentarians, civil society, donors and development partners to advance gender equality and the rights and wellbeing of women and girls worldwide. #WD2026 #SADCPF #MakingCareCount

I visited one of our public health institutions this morning to see a relative and left deeply concerned by the conditions I witnessed. What I saw was deeply moving—a clear indication that many of our people are facing serious challenges. The growing public outcry over our healthcare system is not an exaggeration; it reflects the difficult experiences of many citizens. As your appointee and one whom you have tasked to speak for the young people of our great nation, I feel a solemn responsibility to speak openly: sometimes, in our desire to present progress, we may unintentionally overlook important realities on the ground. Your Excellency, you have earned the admiration of this nation for your compassion, humility and tireless dedication to the welfare of ordinary citizens. Under your leadership, many have found renewed hope. It is because of this trust in your care for the people that I respectfully plead with you: please find time from your busy schedule to visit these institutions yourself. There is no substitute for seeing, listening and understanding firsthand what our citizens are going through. I also wish to commend those who have had the courage to raise their voices on matters of public interest. Their advocacy reflects a belief in the kind of leadership you represent—a leadership that listens, acts and puts people first. @edmnangagwa
