Because they borrowed an engine & went on about how lovely it was then wouldn't make the necessary mod's. They forget that Campbell used a knackered old engine & made it fit. We built a hybrid & made sure it fitted too. This lot just cut out bits of structure.
Paul James@PaulJam01561297

@bluebirdk7 Why did they do that ? ? More needless expense and more originality removed from the poor old thing.

@BuyEnglishMade We no longer drive over them every day, because the modern 'replacement' is a solid plastic thing caked with road dirt and near useless.

Percy Shaw was driving home through fog near Halifax when a cat’s eyes reflected in his headlights. That moment helped inspire Catseyes — the reflective road studs that now guide drivers across the world. The original Catseye is still made in Halifax, Yorkshire, by the company Shaw founded in 1935. Plenty of countries now make their own versions. But the original was English. Most people have never heard of Percy Shaw. You drive over his genius every day. #MadeInEngland

There really ought to be an appropriate audit of all that's happened by the Arts Council or similar. Having a gap in the oversight such that an iconic object has been so badly damaged for no valid reason is not a good look.

@GrahamBoardman2 @bluebirdk7 Surely the wake up call comes when the RM needs more funding. Their decision making must come under scrutiny at that point, especially if they apply for Lottery funding or other publicly backed £. Petty nonsense is all well and good until you ask someone else to pay for it.

@jonnycollage There are several like this in Nuremburg. Post-war denazificiation was so precisely done that it left perfect silhouettes remaining.

@pablo_troyse @Helvegen29 Offensive grenade - you can throw it further than (most of) the boom. Defensive grenade - it goes boom further than you can throw it. You need something to hide behind.

Small thing about french handgrenades: During the Battle of Ifoghas in 2013, the usage of handgrenades was deemed crucial by French forces to neutralise Jihadists during the assault and searches of caves. One major issue came to light: 1/5

I’m hoping that my posts about historic food will reach you through all the outrage on Twitter/X. Do you think too that there should be a place for comfort posts about things that unite & don’t divide? Like buns for example?

@Nithya_Shrii I've always enjoyed this, when it was something project-based with a real timed goal in sight. 'Management is just one rolling car crash of incompetence at the whim of the stock market', isn't the same thing at all.

@SandyofSuffolk @GenerationNew4 Bollocks. The boomers were the generation were this broke down and working class women could get grants to study humanities at the new plate glass and concrete universities of the '60s and '70s. Wasn't perfect, but a big improvement.

Just so you know. Boomers didn't have fast food. Except fish and chips. Boomers didn't have ready meals. Except Vesta beef curry. Look it up. Boomers didn't have colour TVs, front loading washing machines, central heating or holidays abroad. Boomers didn't have babymoons or baby showers nor did they go on stag or hen weekends. Boomers didn't go to restaurants. Except on birthdays. Boomers didn't have new clothes every year, every season. They made do and mended. But Boomers had a fabulous time in the 1960s to 1980s because people were friendly, respectful, dignified and hardworking. Boomers also had law and order and a judiciary who punished ALL criminals. Boomers were happy with their lot. Yes. I'm a Boomer. Just so you know.

Russian propagandist drowned while visiting occupied Georgia to sceeen a documentary about participants of the so-called “special military operation.” Anna Tits and her colleague fell from a suspension bridge into a river. The man was rescued, but Tits was swept away by the current.

@nosateki @unusual_cars We've got two. Inherited the first by accident, loved it, bought another at 250k miles. We tow a caravan with it! The VTEC will even go fast if you rev it over 4,500 rpm. Maybe the best car (it does everyday car stuff with less grief) I've ever had.

@mSanterre @WheelmanForHire @aviationbrk But they do concentrate on certain local ridges. I'm not in Austria. But there are a couple of locations near me where I'd just never fly, because they're where the glider clubs operate. Everyone knows this (by NOTAM), everyone avoids.

Breaking Aviation News & Videos
🚨 WATCH: A paraglider gets hit by a Cessna 172 near the Austrian town of Zell am See. The paraglider was able to pull her rescue parachute and land safely shortly after the incident on Saturday. According to police, the 44-year-old Austrian had started from Schmittenhöhe in the direction of Piesendorf. Above the Pinzgauer Hütte, she collided at 1:15 p.m. with the Cessna piloted by a 28-year-old. The pilot of the Cessna, which flew from the Glemm Valley in the direction of Zell am See, was able to land the aircraft safely at Zell am See Airport. Video: sab_thi

@aviationbrk The cockpit of a Cessna makes it difficult to see anything slightly below the dash. If the paraglider was ascending in a thermal (tight circles) it's possible he may have never seen her. It's a statistical fluke and both pilots are lucky to be alive.
