Since 2009, Oilers have had 10 head coaches…Quinn, Renney, Krueger, Eakins, Nelson, McLellan, Hitchcock, Tippett, Woodcroft and Knoblauch. Only McLellan (264) and Knoblauch (233) have lasted longer than 200 games. Maybe it is not just the coach at fault here…

Part of the reason McDrai is not the way to go is that Draisaitl, fundamentally, is not a winger and he stops moving his feet when he is one. As for the TOI argument, a good coach scales them both back to <20 per game during the regular season. 1/2

Norris balloting this year was the hardest vote of my hockey writing career. If you wanted to recognize the finalists (Makar, Werenski and Dahlin) while also voting for Seider (who was a 🔒 for my top-3), that meant excluding 2 of Bouchard, Hughes and Hutson. Gut wrenching.

Not downplaying Bouchard's season. It was very good, but when Erik Karlsson won the Norris with 101 points, it wasn't just points. With him on the ice San Jose was even 5x5. Without him they were -52 (72-124). And he had 34 more points than closest teammate.

Kris Knoblauch solo coaching debut was such an epic face plant that I’m not sure he’ll coach in the NHL again for a while. - Both McDavid and Draisaitl called him out publicly - Almost missed the playoffs - Quick First round exit to a much weaker team and outcoached but the coach he replaced - Owner had to send Paul Coffey back in to fix the D at Olympic break - Lost all 3 games to his previous assistant coach Gulutzan - All special teams struggled at various parts of the season - Gave up so many leads he had to try to convince the media he didn’t tell players to sit back If he doesn’t get fired he should resign out of pure embarrassment. 😬😬😬

Regardless of OT goal, Oilers blew another two goal lead. They are 1-3 when scoring first. The other 15 playoff teams are 19-8. Blown leads are killing them. They allowed two goals in the second period and have been outscored 9-4 in the middle stanza. Had a lead in the third and couldn't hold it. Can't hold leads, can't PK and getting thrashed in the second period.
