Today we commemorate 83 years since the deportation of 7144 Macedonian Jews from Skopje, Shtip and Bitola to the Treblinka death camp on March 11, 1943. We honour their memory and remember all victims of the Holocaust. #WeRemember #NeverAgain

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day which marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau #OTD in 1945.
Auschwitz was established by the Nazis in 1940 on the outskirts of the Polish city of Oświęcim. Its first commander was Rudolf Höss.
As the Final Solution progressed, Heinrich Himmler ordered the construction of a second camp, Birkenau, and by March 1942, systematic extermination had begun. Four extermination facilities were built, equipped with gas chambers and crematoria.
Jews from across Europe were deported to the camp. Upon arrival, they underwent a selection process. Most were sent directly to the gas chambers, and a small number were selected for forced labor, either within the main camp or in Auschwitz’s sub-camps. Some prisoners were also subjected to brutal medical experiments.
Over one million Jews were murdered at Birkenau, as well as 70,000 Poles, 25,000 Sinti and Roma, approximately 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, and thousands of others.
Explore our many resources related to the camp, including online exhibitions, artifacts, educational materials, video testimonies, and more >>
