NEW: Oklahoma high school principal seen charging at and disarming a school shooter in footage obtained by @SHumphreyTV. Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore is being called a hero after getting shot while stopping a school shooter. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Victor Hawkins, was a former student who said he wanted to shoot up the school “like the Columbine shooters did.” While taking down the shooter, Moore was shot in the leg. He is expected to recover and says he is looking forward to returning to work as soon as possible. "I look forward to returning to work as soon as possible so that I may continue my life’s work educating the next generation of Oklahoma leaders. Until then, my thoughts are with our outstanding students, safe today in the arms of their families and friends," he said. Hero!

'I think it's very, very important for the Pope to be careful' Peter Thiel disciple JD Vance issued a brazen message to Pope Leo XIV tonight at a TPUSA event Vance was defending his and Donald Trump's decision to act as backup to Benjamin Netanyahu in Iran, which has included a missile strike that killed 165 schoolgirls: 'When the Pope says that God is never on the side of those who wield the sword, there is a thousand-year, more than a thousand-year tradition of just war theory, okay? Now we can of course have disagreements about whether this or that conflict is just, but I think that it's important in the same way that it's important for the Vice President of the United States to be careful when I talk about matters of public policy, I think it's very, very important for the Pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology. And I think that one of these issues here is that there has been, is again, hey, random dude screaming, I told you I'd respond to your point, I just want to respond to this question first. But I think one of the issues here is that if you're going to opine on matters of theology, you've got to be careful, you've got to make sure it's anchored in the truth and that's one of the things that I try to do and it's certainly something I would expect from the clergy, whether they're Catholic or Protestant'

@dimittenobis @elizabethgamm2 @ShaneSchaetzel The Pope has the absolute right to judge matters temporal and spiritual. Gaudium et Spes makes this clear. The Pope has access to all top governments and dignitaries and can correspond for information. He can also derive information from all the Diocese of the world.

@elizabethgamm2 @ShaneSchaetzel Trump wasn't criticizing Leo for being the Pope. He was criticizing him because Leo was becoming Political. I doubt Leo has access to the intelligence that Trump has and Leo is way out of his lane. Let Leo lead the Lost to Christ and let Trump help us avoid nuclear disaster.

For the record, I don't believe Trump hates Catholics, nor do I believe he is anti-Catholic, nor do I believe there is anything anti-Catholic about the Trump Administration. I believe quite the opposite, actually, as Trump has awarded many Administration positions to Catholics. He also started his religious liberty board specifically to undo the anti-Catholicism found in the Biden Administration's FBI that investigated Catholics as potential terrorists for chanting in Latin. What Trump did with Pope Leo XIV last night was not anti-Catholic. No. It was stupid and pompous. It showed a weakness in his character that revealed a desire to destroy anyone who criticizes him, even the pope, who does so for legitimate reasons related to Catholic teaching on Just War. And Trump wasn't the only one targeted by this. The pope challenged ALL world leaders to step back and reconsider their course of action. I am no stranger to papal criticism. I fiercely criticized Pope Francis myself, and each time it was related to his compromise on Catholic teaching, and his petty attacks on faithful Catholics (who chant in Latin by the way). However, I generally refrained from criticizing the pope's politics, especially if they were in line with Church teaching, even if I disagreed with how he applied it. Donald Trump was not the first world leader to be criticized by the pope, and he won't be the last. He should know this, and he should have risen above it. Instead he chose to attack the pope, and in doing so he insulted every Catholic on earth, most especially those American Catholics in his political base. Many of us feel backstabbed by this, and we're not going to tolerate it, not from him or anyone else.

Communion between Christians and Muslims takes shape under the mantle of Our Lady of Africa. Here, in #Algeria, the maternal love of Lalla Meryem gathers everyone as children, within our rich diversity, in our shared aspiration for dignity, love, justice, and peace. In a world where division and wars sow pain and death, living in unity and peace is a compelling sign. #ApostolicJourney

1500 years off the mark. Leo, an Augustinian in Augustine's birthplace, is obviously thinking of the saint's description of civic life as a "concordi communione sociatus". If you must pretend to celebrate the Latin Mass, Calvin, try not to advertise that you don't know any latin

Some folks have asked me about the text of the Red Mass I've previously mentioned being used by a radical socialist Anglo-Catholic group in early 20th century England to call upon God and beseech him to bring about the world revolution. [1/3]

There was a movement of Trotskyist English Use Anglo-Catholic medievalists who believed that the Mass was the catalyst to ushering in the Kingdom of God (i.e., the world revolution) and their leader, "the Red Vicar," was a personal friend of Chesterton . . . reality >>> HOI4 mods

@Rodal_Heating @CatholicArena The Church, has always had the right to speak on, and intervene in, all matters temporal and spiritual. This fiction you have in your head that the Church doesn't explicitly do this does not exist. Even so, war is a matter beyond politics.

@CatholicArena Becoming so disillusioned with this politicised church. We DON'T want ties to Islam, it is an abomination. I'm part of a growing congregation which I believe will collapse unless the church gets back on track with saving souls instead of politiking!

You clearly didn't read the address this quote comes from. Pope Leo literally opens by honoring 19 religious martyred by Islamist violence in Algeria. The entire speech is built around that. Also, the Reconquista point is fascinating (ie: highly ironic) coming from a Presbyterian. You're claiming a campaign waged by militantly Catholic monarchs, enforced by the Spanish Inquisition, and carried out under papal authority as your own heritage. The same Spain that carried out the Reconquista would have considered your theology heretical. I mean, think about that. The deeper issue, however, is that the Reconquista and missionary presence in Algeria answer completely different questions. One is just war to reclaim sovereign territory. The other is how Christians live faithfully as a minority. Again, just read the address, my guy. Link: vatican.va/content/leo-xi…
Redeemed Zoomer 👑@redeemed_zoomer

@Pontifex Are you serious? Catholics are being martyred every day due to Islam. Spain did not spend 500 years reclaiming Christendom from the Islamic empires just for you to say stuff like this.

No one ever said the pope's statements on the Iran war are infallible. That's a strawman. But the morality of war and Just War doctrine are fully within the pope's authority on which to weigh in. War is not merely a "political" issue. I remember when conservatives (myself included) rolled our eyes and dismissed Pope John Paul II's condemnation of the 2003 preemptive strikes against Iraq. We turned out to be wrong. He was right. I am grateful for the voice of our Holy Fathers raised in protest against injustice and evil, grateful for their moral clarity in a sea of moral confusion.
Cernovich@Cernovich

@JackPosobiec A lot of people in your replies are confused. Where does it say that the Pope's political proclamations must be given weight of infallibility? I can't find any authority for that.
