Panzarella has the endorsement of the Houston Chronicle (s/o to @evan7257 ) and has a great issue set embracing building more housing and good governance issues (fits well within the YIMBY/Abundance framework). I’d highly encourage you all to vote and consider voting for him

If you are a voter in Houston, on April 4th there is a special election occurring for city council district C (covering mostly the Greater Heights, Montrose, 4th Ward, etc.) I’d highly encourage you to consider voting for @JoeforHouston (Joe Panzarella)

@oJaison @evan7257 It mostly is but this seems to give HPD more room to say their investigation took too long so they held them longer.

New HPD directives from Mayor Pierre Whitmire require officers to detain individuals for up to 30 minutes while awaiting ICE on administrative warrants, differing from policies in cities like Austin and Dallas. This raises concerns about prolonging stops and potential Fourth Amendment issues. "So how exactly do these new directives address the possible Fourth Amendment violations by HPD? They don't." tt: existentialjazz

@evan7257 @oJaison @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX I was speaking solely about HPD holding people for ICE, Plummers version shut down unconstitutional stops vs the new version that gives discretion. Maybe I could've used more precise wording but that's what I was trying to get across. x.com/i/status/20350…

@oJaison @evan7257 @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX Plummers version straight up prohibited HPD waiting around for ICE to pick people up, this version is up to officer discretion.

@evan7257 @oJaison @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX They'd still have discretion to call ICE but not hold people for ICE to pick up. The Salinas version throws in that they can't hold them longer than needed for a stop/investigation, not a blanket don't hold people for ICE. I think this version gives HPD an excuse to stall.

@HaleforHouston @evan7257 @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX How is it watered down from Plummer's proposal? This doesn't appear much different to me, although I was disappointed that council members didn't support her proposal and I'm still hoping that we get an end to non-safety traffic stops.

If you are transgender and live in Tennessee use the replies of this tweet to link your pay apps and GFMs. we need to relocate as many people as possible to safety immediately.
Pop Base@PopBase

Tennessee republicans voted unanimously to advance an anti-trans bill to create a public list of trans people located in the state. House Bill 754 would force medical providers to provide information to the state and identify them. (open.substack.com/pub/transitics…)

@NoahMF Well given Whitmire legit hangs around people that say the N word it's not too shocking.

@shea_jordan This is better but weaker compared to Plummers proposal.

This proposed ordinance is thoughtful, grounded policy that keeps HPD focused on solving crime while building trust across our communities. Aligning Houston with cities like Dallas and Austin only reinforces that this is smart, proven policy.

This is exactly the kind of leadership Houston needs right now. Not just talking about public safety, but strengthening it. When people feel safe enough to call 911, report crimes, and engage with the police without fear, our entire city is better for it.
Alejandra Salinas@salinasforhtx

Today, alongside 25+ major community orgs, we introduced a Prop A ordinance to keep Houston police focused on solving crime — not doing the job of ICE. Right now, too many families are living in fear. Afraid to call 911, report crimes, or even take their kids to school. When trust breaks down between law enforcement and the community, Houston is less safe. (1/4)

@evan7257 @AbbieKamin @PollardforHTX I know Kamin was making the excuse about legality in private, idk about Pollard's reasoning. This is also watered down from what Plummer proposed so that might've made them more willing.

@commieclimber Lab grown meat will be collectivized after the revolution, there's a reason the cattle industry is actively trying to get it banned.

@katewillett The local YIMBYs think Houston isn't YIMBY enough. Yet they all hate Whitmire for the natural conclusion of the policies they want.

It’s not lost on me that Houston Texas is THE PLACE Yimby’s aspire to emulate. No zoning! Minimal labor laws! And yet, here they are building a prison camp for their homeless neighbors instead of providing housing. This is the YIMBY utopia:

ICE in Minneapolis seen abducting someone from a bus stop and putting a black bag over their head (published 3/17/26) So they have moved to legit "black bagging" now, huh? Nothing dystopia to see here...
