@kodythewxguy You can use your garden hose with a jet spray nozzle to knock down snow from upper branches on taller trees. Just be sure to disconnect the hose from the hose bib on the house when you're done.

The risk of broken tree branches and power outages is very real with this stormy storm, especially now that most, if not all, of the trees have leafed out. That matters because wet, heavy snurfall can stick to those leaves, add a bunch of weight, and turn your innocent looking tree into the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter. This will be something to watch closely, especially in the foothills. And if everything sets up just right, it could become an issue down here for the rest of us peasants too. So, what can you control? Safely knock heavy snow off small trees, shrubs, and low branches before too much weight builds up. Use a broom, pole, basketball, paintball pew pew, pool noodle, pet giraffe, or a small child with an elite opposable precision grip. If the tree trunk is small enough that it actually moves when you gently push on it, give it a nice little shaky shake. You can also try yelling at it. I’m not sure how effective that is, but it may be emotionally productive. Death stares from intimidating people have also been known to work, because if you stare long enough, the snow simply evaporates out of fear. What I do not recommend: climbing trees, standing under big loaded branches, hitting power lines with anything, using ladders on slick ground, or deploying a blowtorch because you briefly became your own intrusive thought. Please do not get electrocuted, flattened, or sued by gravity. If anyone has other ideas that are effective, safe, and won’t get me subpoenaed, feel free to drop them in the comments.

The responses to this are a good reminder that a lot of anti-immigrant keyboard warriors have no idea what the law says. “He had 20 years to become a citizen!” No. Thanks to country of origin caps, the wait time for Indians can be over *100 years*—just to get a green card. Many die waiting in line. We tell people seeking the American Dream to come here “the right way,” and then we punish them for doing so.

This H-1B worker has lived in the US for nearly 20 years and built a family here. His mom was dying in India. To visit her, he would need to wait months to book a consular appointment--with the soonest one available likely being scheduled one year out. He made the difficult choice of not visiting his dying mom because leaving without an appointment would mean separation from his children, job, and his other obligations. Much of the commentary around immigration focuses on how such bureaucratic burdens undermine immigrants’ ability to contribute and innovate. But we must remember that this red tape also prevents these people from being fully engaged with their own lives and meaningfully present in the lives of others. This matters too, and these seemingly non-economic problems will eventually translate into economic costs. If America is no longer a place where people feel empowered to be the best versions of themselves as they celebrate, struggle, and grieve, it ceases not just being the land of opportunity, but also the land of dignity and purpose. linkedin.com/posts/gautam-d…

@Rothmus But "community during off hours" doesn't have to mean drinking and smoking. That's the community for 20 year olds. If we build certain parts of the city for 30s and 40s who are raising children, we can fill their walkable neighborhood with the kinda shit they would want.

“Folks romanticize college because they lived in dense, walkable-” They romanticize college because it was the last time they could be full-time irresponsible adults. Drink, smoke, fuck, eat gas station sushi at 4am, and pull all-nighters because your biggest consequence was a 9 am lecture you’d skip anyway. And everyone around you was as degenerate as you are. Nobody with kids wants to live in that zoo. WaLkAbLe NeiGhBoRhOoD

NEW: Woman screams "I love you" and has to be helped out of prison after her husband was executed in Texas for killing two people. James Broadnax's wife, British law graduate Tiana Krasniqi, reportedly screamed and banged against the window as he was executed. She reportedly began a relationship with Broadnax after writing to him while he was in prison. Krasniqi claims her husband, whom she married just a few weeks ago, did not commit the crimes; however, prosecutors say he admitted to the killings in jailhouse interviews. Broadnax was convicted of killing two men during a robbery in Dallas, Texas, in 2008. "They killed my husband," Krasniqi said. "My husband suffered so bad from the lethal injection that he had a nosebleed and bruising on his neck. The families laughed as they watched. Is that justice?" She is now threatening to "expose everyone."

@mbaril010 Urgent neurosurgery doesn’t wait 587 days. It doesn’t wait a week. Your surgery was either non urgent/elective or you’re making this up. Canadian healthcare has issues… but it IS free and great for emergencies.

587 days. That's how long the Canadian healthcare system took to call me back about the spinal surgery I needed immediately or risk losing the use of my legs. In 2024, I broke my back in Singapore. The neurosurgeon there said surgery was urgent. After 3 weeks fighting my insurance from a hospital bed, I flew home with medical support. The Canadian hospital quoted an 8-month wait. I'm lucky I could afford to go private. The next day, I had the operation. Today, 587 DAYS LATER, the public hospital called to say they're ready for me. People say Canadian healthcare is free and great. It's neither. It's horrible!

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸
Trump just sent a letter to Congress saying the war in Iran is “terminated” because today marks 60 days and in order for the President to have the authority to continue, the Constitution requires a vote from Congress. But the war is not really terminated. Trump is just restarting the clock to avoid a vote from Congress that may limit his power to wage a war on Iran, and the war is absolutely not over just because there has been a ceasefire. Also, Trump is about to start military actions again very soon. It never ended. This is unconstitutional and Congress should reclaim it’s constitutional authority.

Many people do not seem to want data centres built near them, despite the fact that they don't cause that much traffic and often generate a lot of local tax revenue. I suspect it's partly because they're ugly! My proposal:

Rebeca Fratila-Ilies, of Romania, was convicted of two counts of sexually abusing a child in Staunton, Va. She was supposed to serve a decade behind bars but was recently arrested again by police in North Carolina for a probation violation. ICE lodged an immigration detainer against her with Guilford County, N.C., April 17, asking them not to release this child sex abuser back into the community. She remains in police custody pending the outcome of her probation violation case.
