Christian women in the 14th century:
“Forgive me, Father, for I slept with a man before marriage. For penance, I will live the rest of my days in celibacy at a convent.”
Christian women in the 21st century:
“So what if I slept with over a hundred guys in college? Jesus said ‘judge not’ somewhere. I deserve a good husband with no consequences or accountability for my past!”

@tuuu28283 I love the idea of tatami mats, but the realist in me can't help but think that they can collect and store a ton of dirt and get infested with insects. Moisture and mold, too.
Then again, maybe tatami mats are much more resilient than I imagine.
English

@tuuu28283 @WatcherontheWeb Whatever, they can get super cheap. They don't really have a main thing. It's just stuff that is so cheap that you're almost certain to regret your purchase.
English

@tuuu28283 Dollar anything stores are all the same. Here is a video walk through of one I found after a quick YouTube search.

@Milkmeray @grok, gonna need your help with this one.
What the fuck?

@NealFejedelem @SFDrillSergeant @1stPrinciples76 @TimHannan No, they rule on state law all the time.
Still, there isn't much point in inserting themselves when Virginia's Supreme Court slaps down such a flagrant violation of the Virginia constitution that hard.
English

@SFDrillSergeant @1stPrinciples76 @TimHannan And unless there is a question of federal law, and in case there isn't, they have no authority.
English

The Supreme Court is not even pretending to be impartial anymore. Republicans can redistrict but Democrats can’t.

@KelseyTuoc Algebra education should start in kindergarten.
If you can add and subtract, you can start doing algebra. They even do with fill in the blank problems. Just replace the blank with an X and call it algebra. Repeat for multiplication and division and so on.

@ChibiReviews Prisma Illya was probably much more problematic than I remember. I'd been working my way through the Fate series, and in every iteration, Illya's fate was so terrible that I started to feel bad for her. Coming off of that, Prisma Illya came across as a real feel-good anime.

I may have added the work "epic" when I ask @grok as received this Masterpiece.
The Chickeniad
Sing, O feathered Muse of the barnyard throne,
Of the stout-hearted Cock who ruled the dawn,
Whose crimson crest, like Ares’ plumed helm,
Flashed defiance ‘gainst the coming storm.
Tell of the ancient Coop of golden straw,
Where nations of the Hen and valiant Rooster
Dwelt in proud concord, till the shadow fell—
The shadow of the Fox, that sly marauder,
Born of night and hunger’s endless gnawing.
Great Chanticleer was he, first among equals,
Whose clarion voice could rouse the very sun
From slumber’s couch and bid the stars retire.
Twelve noble wives he kept in feathered grace,
Each one a Helen of the speckled breast,
Whose eggs, like treasures of the gods, gleamed white
Beneath the watchful circle of his wing.
Yet peace is fragile as a morning mist:
The Fox, old Reynard, breaker of fences,
Came creeping through the dusk with burning eyes,
His tongue a serpent’s whisper, red with schemes.
“Awake!” cried Chanticleer, his neck outstretched,
Wings beating thunder on the wooden roost.
The hens arose in panic’s fluttering cloud,
While young Pullets, unblooded in the fray,
Clucked shrill alarms that pierced the silent fields.
Forth from the shadows leapt the enemy,
Sleek fur like midnight, teeth like gleaming blades.
Then raged the battle of the furrowed yard—
A clash Homeric, though the field was small.
Chanticleer, undaunted, met the foe:
He struck with spur and beak, a whirlwind storm,
His golden hackles raised like lion’s mane.
Blood dyed the dust where once the millet grew;
Feathers, like snowflakes in a winter gale,
Drifted across the scene of noble strife.
The hens, inspired by their sovereign’s fire,
Pecked valiantly at Reynard’s flashing tail,
While ancient hens, gray-plumed and battle-wise,
Flapped wings that once had sheltered many chicks.
Long they contended through the waning light.
The Fox seized one fair hen—sweet Partlet she—
And bore her toward the wood’s devouring dark.
But Chanticleer, with courage born of love,
Pursued. He leapt upon the villain’s back,
Claws digging deep into the russet hide.
Reynard howled; the captive hen broke free
And fled on trembling legs back to the fold.
Still fought the Cock, though wounds adorned his breast,
Till weary dawn, that faithful ally, came
And lit the field with justice’s golden lance.
The Fox retreated, tail between his legs,
Nursing the scars of Chanticleer’s renown.
Triumphant, though bloodied, the victor stood
Upon the highest perch and crowed once more—
A song that echoed through the waking world,
Proclaiming glory to the feathered race.
The hens returned, their champion at their head;
The eggs were gathered, life renewed anew.
Thus, mortal bards, remember well this tale:
Though small in stature, great in heart and will,
The Chicken holds within his modest frame
The spirit of the heroes sung of old.
No Trojan walls nor Argive ships of bronze
Surpass the humble coop where valor dwells.
Let every sunrise be a hymn of praise
To Chanticleer, undying lord of dawn.
So ends the first book of the Chickeniad.
The Muse falls silent, yet the roosters sing.

@mask_bastard Stream treats customers right. Epic bribes companies to sign up for exculsivity deals as its way of drawing in new customers. That anti-consumer behavior. They should be providing a better service, not tossing out bribes.
English

@setswithinsetss @Math_files No, that's not what I said. "We have no idea what is going on." The only thing dark matter is is that term added to the equations.
English

@Harkmagic @Math_files Yea, that's exactly what I said, it's a placeholder name for whatever is causing the gravitational anomalies we observe
English

@AnimeTwtX We really don't have a solid grasp on Frieren's age. We only know that she started training under Flamme 1000 years ago. When the two of them first meet she is already a powerful mage. She was strong enough to defeat one of the Demon King's generals. I'd say she is probably 2000+
English

@CloudMonkeyTWT They skipped a ton. That arc should have been quite a bit longer. It really badly distorts what happened with how much was cut.
English

@setswithinsetss @Math_files We do not know what dark matter is. That is literally why we call it dark. It's an exciting sounding placeholder for "we have no idea what is going on here."
English

@Harkmagic @Math_files That's what Dark matter is, we have observed it
You're not a physicist, you yourself only have a "pop-sci" understanding, or whatever the hell you got out of AI
Pick up a textbook, physics has been doing great recently
English

@setswithinsetss @Math_files I may not work as a physicist, but I've got the degree.

@___VM___ @Civixplorer I'm not throwing up a bunch of PII for a rando on the internet from another country. Here's a picture of my books and notebooks. Still missing some, but you get the picture.
English

@setswithinsetss @Math_files Yes, that is the pop sci description of Dark Matter. I'm sure you love everything that Neil deGrasse Tyson has to say.
Dark Matter is just a mathematical fudge factor to make the equations match observation. Physics is not nearly so exciting as people believe.
English

@Harkmagic @Math_files Uh, no, Einstein had a theory, it was experimentally proven to correctly describe much of reality, but further experimentation facilitated by better technology found that there are things Einstein can't perfectly describe, we call that dark matter because it acts alot like matter
English

@setswithinsetss @Math_files No, dark matter is that little bit of mathmatics used to correct our best theory.
The research is to try and explain why that little bit of mathmatics is needed.
You had a pop-sci understanding of dark matter.
English

@Harkmagic @Math_files No, dark matter is the name given to the observable discrepancy between observation and our best theory
We know something is wrong and we are actively researching the solution
