Today we were at Paradise project in #Birmingham, another bottomless pit for @BhamCityCouncil to shovel taxpayer money into. As #BrumBinStrike convenor Matt says here, @BrumLabour have wasted hundreds of millions of public money which could have been spent on communities, key services and jobs. The same council that has spent upwards of £35m to try and break a strike that would cost a fraction of that to settle by negotiation. Voters will remember all this on May 7th.

Unite the union: join a union
While public services are stretched and wages struggle to keep up, the wealth of the super-rich continues to soar. In 1960, there were just 15 billionaires in the UK - today, there are over 150 😳 Meanwhile, the NHS, local public services and infrastructure are crumbling, and our communities pay the cost. Across the UK, NGOs and think tanks are calling for a wealth tax to reinvest in public services, support communities, and tackle the growing wealth divide. Here, a Unite Community member shares why the time for decisive government action is now — it’s time for a wealth tax. #WealthTax #UKEconomy #WealthGap #UKPolitics #PublicServices

Two @UKlabour councils collaborating to break the #BrumBinStrike Labour-run @BhamCityCouncil is hiring strike-breaking bin workers from @TomWhiteWaste - a company owned by Labour-run @coventrycc #Birmingham council could end the strike in days through negotiations. Instead they've chosen to give £ millions of #Brum taxpayers money to another council to prolong the strike by months. Dean and other #BrumBinStrike workers visited #Coventry yesterday to demand an end to this.

Norway is often described as a gold standard with regards inequality, but what is the reality? Inherited wealth, a housing system that locks young people out of home ownership and deepening food insecurity…Norway is not quite the paragon of equality we have been led to believe👇🏻
EQUALS: Reimagining Our Economy@EQUALSHope

New episode is out! Is Norway Really Equal? Only 10 people own more than the bottom 50% combined. @trinemeline breaks down rising poverty, longer food lines, housing struggles for young people, & the political battles over the #WealthTax. 🎧 Tune in: equals.ink/p/is-norway-re…

“Instead of using Thatcher’s anti-union laws to injunct the picket line and stop lawful protest, the council should honour the deal scoped out at Acas. They walked out of the room, said they would be back with the deal in writing, and never returned.” @UniteSharon @unitetheunion

On the one year anniversary of all out indefinite strike action, Matt Reid, Unite convenor at Birmingham City Council explains morale of the striker is growing and the solidarity shows no sign of weakening. People know that if a @UKLabour council can get away with this shocking behaviour here in #Birmingham, the biggest local authority in Europe, it'll open the floodgates of a race to the bottom for every public sector worker in the UK. All power to the strikers. We will support them until they win, no matter how long it takes. @unitetheunion

In the one year since the bin strike began, Brum City Council has: ✔️Doubled down on bin worker pay cuts up to £8,000/year ✔️Voted to give themselves a pay rise ✔️Wasted over £33 million in taxpayer money ✔️Engaged in illegal strikebreaking activity Let’s be clear: It’s time for Councillors to get back to the bargaining table. We’re not stopping until bin workers get the fair deal we deserve. Demand your Councillors make a fair deal to end the bin strike: actionnetwork.org/campaigns/birm…

Workers are scratching their heads asking whose side are Labour on, who do they really represent, because it certainly isn’t workers. Workers and communities are paying the price. Labour needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The cut in affiliation fee shows the anger of #Unite members. Stop taking workers for granted, spine up, do your job and be real #Labour.

We're back in the community today speaking to the good folk of #Nechells to see if they can help resolve the bin strike by joining our e action, sending emails to Lee Marsham and MP @ShabanaMahmood The response has been excellent as usual - @BrumLabour are on the wrong side of the argument on the bin strike. The longer it continues, the more tax payers money they waste, the worse it gets.... Email your political representatives here: actionnetwork.org/campaigns/birm…

Think of everything you’ve achieved in the last year - and then marvel at the fact that Birmingham City Council have failed to revolve the bin strikes which have now dragged on for a full 12 months 🫠 Amazing energy at this morning’s picket ✊ @UniteEconomy @unitetheunion

The discourse about declining birth rates and "selfish women" deciding not to have babies provides the perfect excuse. The Manosphere and right-wing populism are turbo charging capitalism to the detriment of women everywhere. The answer? Organising and resisting, together 👊

This episode really shook me. Historian Kristen Ghodsee describes how there are structural changes happening in our global economies, to which States are responding - as they always historically have - by forcing women into domestic, caring roles and out of the work force.
