Ron playing his 1st game for more than 6 mths. 2-0 win with goals from Shaky & Lovell - Ron saved a pen in an outstanding performance. I was off to uni, life was good...a certain Jim Stannard in the other goal. A game to bottle, cork and keep in the cellar.

Shrewsbury Academy Player Huge Aiston made his debut today against Gillingham at the age of 15
And Glenn Morris started in goal for Gills at the age of 42
Meaning that there was an incredible 27 year age gap between both players, is that a record?

In view of the retained list, I find this an interesting stat. All bar GK staying? Most pts per match (based on mins when player is on pitch) 1. McKenzie - 1.30 2. Gale - 1.29 3. A Smith - 1.28 4. Morris - 1.26 5. Coleman - 1.19 6. Dack - 1.17 7. Hutton - 1.16 8. Little - 1.15

@GillsInTheBlood I may be in a minority, but would have kept Max, even as cover, but overall I am not too sad about this cull. It's also an admission of failure in recruitment. The great thing is that this forgettable campaign is over and now hope springs eternal. Big summer reset. UTG ahead.

@MattP_Titan I'd say that, of the unretained player list, he's one I would not have minded if he had been kept on. I don't get the boo boys. One of the few who appeared to care. Had his bad days but there's a long list there! Careful what you wish for - the next lb needs to be an upgrade.

Player Ratings from PlayerStats have Max as our best performer of the year. Per game average Max made more crosses, tackles, assists, and was our second most accurate passer after Little. The dislike that many show for him is disproportionate to how he played.

This was my 50th season as a Gills fan - not one to look back on fondly, sadly, bar the early unbeaten run record. Thanks for the feedback on my stats this season. I'll keep supplying as long as you have the appetite for them. Enjoy the World Cup summer - then we go again! 12/12
