@FinancialReview I wouldn’t have thought that controversial. A factory paying for its own water & power.
English

The NSW Government wants to make data centres pay for their own water and electricity infrastructure. In the meantime, it’s putting 15 in the fast lane. ebx.sh/UIiFHv

@hot_rails Are you serious. A Labor govt suggested this in 1973/74. Then Minister went outside Loan Council guidelines are was howled down. Imagine if we had these pipelines since the early 80s.
English

Australia has plenty of gas, but most of it is in the Northwest Shelf, isolated from the populated east coast. The West-East Pipeline would unify the national market, connecting cheap WA gas to the expensive eastern states.
A 2017 feasibility study estimated construction would take two years and cost $5.8 billion, and reduce east coast gas prices by $3/GJ - a benefit of over $2 billion per year! That’s narrow peacetime benefits only, ignoring the project’s strategic value and national resilience.
If coupled with a gas-to-liquids plant in South Australia, it would underpin true liquid fuel security for a nation increasingly aware of its dependence on maritime trade.

@GrindeOptions Cole if oil gets to its Feb figure around $70 a barrel before the end of next yer I’ll be shocked. Assuming you get the strait open by tomorrow how will you repair the damaged refineries in 6 mths.

@TMFScottP See the interview with Christine Largarde I’ve just reported.
If she is anywhere near right we (the world) is in for a tough few years.
Having 10% of our servos low on fuel will seem quite minor.

The head of Europe’s central bank just said financial markets don’t understand what they’re in for.
This is Christine Lagarde saying the damage is already done. Most people have absolutely no idea. Here is what she actually said.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. That chokepoint carries 20% of the world’s oil and gas. Markets shrugged. Investors assumed it would blow over. Lagarde told The Economist that technical experts are not talking about months for recovery. They are talking about years.
Helium travels through the Strait of Hormuz. Helium is not a balloon gas. It is the invisible ingredient inside every advanced microchip on earth. Qatar supplies 35% of the world’s commercial helium. Qatar’s facilities have gone dark. Spot prices have surged past $450 per thousand cubic feet. Most chip fabricators carry less than three months of inventory. The world is building AI data centers at record speed. The raw material that makes the chips possible is now scarce.
Meanwhile Brent crude has hit $99. Earlier spikes passed $120. US gasoline is up 30%. Iraq cut 1.5 million barrels a day. Saudi Arabia paused its largest refinery. Europe is heading into this with gas storage at 30% capacity.
And the ECB is not cutting rates to soften the blow. It is considering hiking them to fight inflation.
Slow economy. Rising prices. Tighter money. All at once.

Norway has approximately 9-10 years in reserve! If they can do it, pretty sure others including our country can!
It’s all about forward planning because the current situation happens every time the is a war in the Middle.
Depending on which countries are involved is usually reflected at the ⛽️

600 petrol stations across Australia ran out of fuel this week according to Bloomberg
Just over 20 years ago we had 8 refineries and produced 98% of our own fuel. Today we have only 2
The governments emergency plan in 2020 was to buy 1.7 million barrels and store them in underground salt caverns in Texas. But only 2 years later they sold it all . It was never replaced. Australia currently has zero government owned oil reserves anywhere on earth and no tankers to bring any home anyway.
Our government’s message today is to “be a good neighbour, don’t panic buy”
Mid April is when the last confirmed tankers arrive. after that nothing is booked.
English

I just filled up at the local Ampol (Whitehorse Rd, Balwyn). The Store Manager showed me real time fuel storage data. His petrol tanks are 25%-50% full depending on the fuel type (running low on premium grades of petrol & diesel). He indicated they get weekly delivery of fuels but have not received supply this week. Fyi @AlboMP. I suspect this example is now an issue across all of Australia's main cities & your govt has done nothing for the past few weeks.
English

@pauliec80859931 @GraemeStoneham Paulie yoh aren’t paying attention stating govt has done nothing. There are many things most listed in Hansard maybe reported in the press somewhere. If u don’t have time trust me but don’t show your ignorance the govts (state & Feds) have done nothing.
English

@GraemeStoneham @pauliec80859931 That is exactly what he told parliament yesterday and in fact the press last week.
On the ph to other leaders in the region. I expect subtly using our big gas supply in exchange for liquid fuels and fertiliser.
How long did the pic take 2 or 3 mins. Who hasn’t been human once.
English

@HeadLenn @pauliec80859931 We expect him to lead by example. We expect him to get on the phone with other leaders along with shipping companies and big oil to make arrangements for the betterment of our country. He prefers to waste our time and money taking baby pics in parliament.
English

@pauliec80859931 Rationing how would ration fuel.
Supply diesel to farmers fishers and trucking coys? What about all the diesel utes in cities ( I don’t own one).
Rationing simply extends the chaos. The problem is getting supply which I understand the coys are using US as well now.
English

@Jeremy_Morton_ @bruceking54 @wattleiwear @AlboMP @AustralianLabor 8 times three pt something is 35,000 tonnes.
We are a small trading nation. If the group with 350mil offers you this plus various other things that will help our economy you take. Don5 you’ve got nothing
English

8 times almost nothing is still almost nothing.
Europe has has 16 times our population & still runs a $46B trade surplus with Australia.
That's because they partipate in our economy almost entirely without restriction & we are almost entirely locked out of their economy, particularly agricultural products.
Free & open markets is what we want.
As for China, that moron ScoMo did us enormous harm.
English

So apparently our PM called our farmers 'ungrateful' for the shit deal the @AlboMP @AustralianLabor Gov't agreed to with Europe.
The EU is the 2nd largest economy on the planet & our farmers are almost entirely excluded from participating in that economy.
Farmers could not be anything other than devastated that this is outcome for our nation.
Read how Europe is reporting the deal to their farmers about their 'sensitive' agricultural products.

@eighteenholes18 @alexelliottgolf I think it is clear a portion of the ball is below the putting surface.
English

@alexelliottgolf It is impossible to tell, based on the picture, if the ball is holed or not.
The rules are easy, the facts are hard 🤓
English

@alexelliottgolf Assuming this is a tee shot.
Rule 13.2c when a ball is resting against a flagstick and any part of the ball is below the surface of the putting green. That is considered holed.
English

@gaurav_kochar What are these people expecting. Governments will simply pull diesel out of their backside.
English

🚨 NO FUEL = NO FOOD
An Australian farmer just revealed a truth most people ignore:
Modern farming runs on diesel.
Tens of thousands of litres…
Just to grow and harvest ONE crop.
Now imagine the fuel isn’t there.
No diesel → No harvesting
No harvesting → No transport
No transport → No food on shelves
This isn’t a future scenario.
It’s already starting.
⛽ Fuel shortages rising
📉 Deliveries slowing
📈 Costs surging
And it won’t stay in Australia.
~20% of global oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
If that chokepoint tightens… this goes global.
🌍 Food disruption
💸 Price shocks
📦 Supply shortages
Most people won’t notice at first.
Because crises like this don’t start with empty shelves…
They start quietly.
Then all at once.
English

@Jeremy_Morton_ @bruceking54 @wattleiwear @AlboMP @AustralianLabor But an increase by a factor of 8.
Hell six years ago you were blocked from China.
That’s back you have increases to Europe plus more from regional economies what more do you want.
English

@bruceking54 @wattleiwear @AlboMP @AustralianLabor Which is sweet FA...
Less than 1% for most products
