@FineGael Family carers work 24/7, 7 days a week saving the Irish state Billions. They are some of the poorest people in the country in-fact since 2010 carers and people with disabilities have gone from 1 in 5 in poverty to 1 in 2. Do they not deserve recognition? That’s some legacy.

@SuzieD755164 Saw it’s an old one alright but it’s been a slow erosion of trust and now the bucket of trust is empty. Gone. People have seen through it and I expect there will be an ever increasing number of donor opt outs. The correct thing would have been to engage & allow people to Opt In.

@HealthWatch_ie The headline is old but I have bo doubt this is happening today. They don't let you keep your placenta. It is worth a lot. Up to 500,000 dollars.

Several Irish hospitals were involved in sending placental tissue to a French company for use in cosmetics without the explicit consent of mothers. The hospitals involved included: The Coombe Women's Hospital, Dublin The Rotunda Hospital, Dublin Erinville Hospital, Cork (The arrangement started in 1978, with placentas collected in the hospital) St. Finbarr's Hospital, Cork  The placentas were exported from these hospitals over an 18-year period to a company in France for the production of cosmetic creams. The practice was discontinued after it was revealed in 2000.  The export of placentas occurred for over 18 years, starting around 1978. The SHB (Southern Health Board) at the time was asked to investigate the export of placentas from Cork hospitals. Arrangements for collecting the placentas often involved the company providing deep-freezes and cartons to the hospitals. Mothers were not informed about what the placenta was being used for at the time.

⚠️ Every year the Irish State makes billions from exporting human and animal blood, tissue and organs. We are one of the largest exporters in the world despite having a relatively small country and population (so when you hear ads for blood shortages, now you know why there is no surplus). Ireland has also seen scandals relating to the illegal sale and supply of babies blood, tissues and organs to pharmaceutical companies. Done without parental permission (and in most cases they were not told or only told years later, they were also not compensated and were treated very callously). A tribunal into the shocking actions of hospitals was closed down by then Minister for Health Mary Harney. I've taken the liberty of providing a template below for anyone who wishes to know what happened to one of their own organs (placenta) after the birth of their child or children). Please be sure to provide a copy of your drivers licence or passport when making your request. Also fill in your own personal details and Hospital email etc. Also, if you haven’t opposed or opted out of the automatic opt in for organ donation, I recommend doing so. No government has the right to lay claim to your bodily organs. It is dystopian and there is more to it than the "helping others" and "greater good" narrative that is rolled out to manipulate and guilt trip you. FOI Letter: Address: [Hospital Address] Date: [Today’s Date] Subject: Freedom of Information Request – Records regarding disposal/retention of placenta Dear FOI Officer, Under the Freedom of Information Act, I am writing to request access to records held by [Name of Hospital] relating to the handling, storage, and final disposal of my placenta following the birth of my child. My Details: Full Name: [Your Name] Date of Birth: [Your DOB] Hospital Record Number (if known): [MRN Number] Date of Delivery: [Date you gave birth] Information Requested: I am seeking copies of all records (electronic or paper-based) regarding the following: Clinical notes or logs indicating whether my placenta was sent for pathological examination or histology. Any consent forms signed by me regarding the retention or disposal of the placenta. Records detailing the final method of disposal (e.g., incineration, sensitive disposal) and the date this occurred. If the placenta was retained for research or training purposes, please provide the specific authorization and details of its current status. I would prefer to receive these records via email if possible. If there are any fees associated with this request, please notify me in advance. I look forward to hearing from you within the statutory timeframe of four weeks. Yours faithfully, [Your Signature] [Your Phone Number/Email] Note: Proof of Identity: Most hospitals will ask for a copy of your Photo ID (like a passport or driver's license) to ensure they aren't releasing private medical data to the wrong person. It’s often faster to attach a scan of it to your initial email. Data Protection (GDPR) vs. FOI: While you can use FOI, hospitals often prefer a Subject Access Request (SAR) under GDPR for personal medical records. Both work, the FOI officer redirects you to the Data Protection officer. This won't delay your request. Be Specific: If you remember a doctor mentioning they wanted to "send it to the lab," add that detail. It helps the staff track down the specific pathology report.

80-year-old woman in Togher Flats: walls & ceilings black with mould, water (possibly sewage) rising through the floor, flat freezes the second heating goes off. Waited several years for a transfer. Doctor confirms conditions are injuring her health. This is cruel neglect. I will keep advocating strongly at City Council level on her behalf and for other tenants until action is taken. Urgent inspection + medical transfer needed NOW. @corkcitycouncil @HSELive @MichealMartinTD @jerrybuttimer @Donnchadhol @McGrathSeamus @Nick_Delehanty @EoinLenihan @kenoflynnTD @SenatorKeogan #housing #corkcity #damp #basicinfrastructure

Parents shouldn’t be put in this position. Clear pathways of care that inspires trust and confidence in the system. Unfortunately both have gradually eroded and no longer exist.

@businessposthq The problem with the current tax system is it’s not being spent in the right way.If people felt they were getting value in return for taxes like eg a decent health service that’s one thing but we’re not.The taxes are not managed properly. Abolish USC, property & inheritance tax.

@wolfiewire Because we have an incompetent govt who either lack the vision or they are intentionally forcing our highly qualified medical professionals abroad to dilute the population and lower costs and standards.

Explain this to me why do we educate Irish trained medics/doctors to a higher level then export them because there is an embargo on employing them. Yet at the same time import and employ lesser qualified Indian medics who now want us to officially reduce standards?

@GrandTorinoX “You cannot be allowed to speak.” That speaks volumes. They just want complete control over the discussion and narrative. What politician is this? Listen to the clapping seals.

The HSE "Your Service, Your Say” Loop Accountability or Just a Runaround? Families are reporting a frustrating trend: after hitting a wall with local HSE services, they turn to the "Your Say" complaints process, only to be redirected back to the very people or services they are complaining about!! When a system investigates itself, transparency is often traded for bureaucracy. We have to ask: Is the process designed to resolve issues, or simply to manage or silence them? How can a service be "independent" when complaints are often sent back to be "investigated" by the local manager or team involved? Serious concerns are frequently bounced back to the source rather than being escalated for external review. While the Office of the Ombudsman offers external oversight, it is often a long, drawn-out process that provides no immediate remedy for families in crisis. If you feel silenced by the "Your Say" process, it’s important to understand the mechanics of the Health Act 2004 to break the loop: The 30-Day Rule: Under the Act, the HSE must provide a formal response within 30 working days. If they exceed this without a valid written explanation, they are in breach of their statutory duty. If a local manager investigates themselves and you are unsatisfied, you have a statutory right to a Stage 3 Internal Review. Demand a Review Officer who has had no prior involvement in your case. This isn't just a "paperwork" problem; it’s a safeguarding risk. When clinical or care concerns are buried in administrative loops, the risk to the patient remains active. Independence and transparency cannot exist in a vacuum. When "Your Say" feels like "No Say," the system fails the very people it was built to protect. We need real oversight, not a revolving door. @roinnslainte @HSE #PatientRights #Accountability #Transparency #Safeguarding #CareChampions @kodonnellLK @CarrollJennifer

Graduate Nurses 2023 Norway (similar population size to Ireland) ➡️ 83.8 graduates per 100,000 ➡️ Ireland has 32 per 100,000!! Why does Ireland not have more nursing graduates in light of the recruitment and retention crisis the healthcare sector is experiencing?
