Stricklin attempted a "Split S" maneuver (which he had successfully performed over 200 times) based on an incorrect mean sea level elevation of the airfield, Stricklin had insufficient altitude to complete the maneuver, but guided the away from the spectators and ejected.

@WatchHorseVT You said “You can’t recover from multiple birds getting into the intake at 50 feet.” And exactly how do know that to be true???

@HitmanF18 The commander of the Blue Angels seems to agree this was a bad thing that carried unacceptable risk, so I think I'll trust him on that

You can't recover from multiple birds getting into the intake at 50 feet. There is a reason why these rules existed in the first place. A lot of stupid rules in the military exist because someone or multiple people died stupidly and that rule was the solution.
The Old Curmudgeon@Pokeycorky

These Blue Angel Pilots have the skillset to fly a few feet apart inverted from another Blue Angel, while performing a loop at 700mph, I’m sure they have the skillset to safely perform a low level beach flyover.

We’ve gone from a helicopter at Kid Rock’s, to Apaches on the beach, to this legitimately dangerous flyover in Pensacola. This is what it looks like when your “SecWar” is concerned with “low-T” instead of discipline.

Less than 50 feet AGL. Just a little slip of control away from putting that wing tip in the water, flipping that bird end over end and killing a bunch of innocent people on that beach.
I'MYOURHUCKLEBERRY@PLSgetserious

I book marked this little gem for the future when one of these maneuvers ends in disaster. We are now going to see a large increase in this behavior and it's not going to end well. There's a reason you're only the acting Secretary of the Navy.

It was a scheduled airshow. 11 years ago. Same thing happened. Not a peep from anybody. Only difference was the person that was President. Quit being a bitch. This was one of the coolest things to happen in the 21st century. Link to orginial video: youtu.be/_ba2wWgc8cU?si…

Aviation rules/regulations are written in blood. The vast majority of aviation rules and regulations can trace their lineage directly back to an accident. Fast & low flyovers are absolutely awesome when conducted safely. Flying low, over people with loose chairs, canopies, umbrellas, etc. is dangerous if for no other reason than sending debris flying around people on the ground.

Are you kidding me! That last pass is lucky to be 50 ft. AGL! Ground these clowns. I don’t care if it is the Blue Angels. They put every civilian on that beach at mortal risk. Unprofessional and unacceptable. I would have been grounded for months for a stunt like that. 🫤
Christopher Bishop@ChrisBishopL1C4

This is the Military that Pete Hegseth is encouraging. The Blue Angels are some of the most disciplined pilots in the Navy. For them to do this is unheard of. That last pilot broke every rule in the Blue Angels rule book and likely FAA guidelines. That pass is easily below 500 feet and likely even as low as 150 feet. Very dangerous and very unlike the Blue Angels.

@RSE_VB For fucks sake, everybody needs to lighten the fuck up. It was debriefed and corrected. Most, if not all, the whiny bitches on here complaining suffer from TDS and won’t be happy until the pilot is fired and his career ended. Just STFU.

There is already a spirit of daring and brashness among military aviators. It’s honestly a job requirement. Have I done on-the-edge shit in a Tomcat? Sure. Was it against “the rules?” Absolutely. But it was NEVER around or over groups of civilians. Never over population or civilian structures. Low pass over some Marines who were working me as a CAS asset on a military range after the mission was done? Sure. The occasional cargo train in the middle of the desert? Yeah. That’s totally different than these last two VERY public incidents caught on camera. Hell, even ON a base there are limits. I was working a missing man flyover onboard NAS Oceana. We were burying “Ernie” Sides. At the TOT, the Bullets (VF-2, Ernie’s squadron) roared over the crowd at MAYBE 200 feet. The fiancée and parents almost fell out of their chairs. Way not cool. The point is that there are limits. Hotdogging low over civilians is just poor headwork and bad judgement. You can’t convince me otherwise. The risk is too great for the paltry reward of “looking cool.” You already ARE cool; you’re a military aviator. And leadership cheering it on is not smart. There is always someone who’s going to try to “beat the record” for “cool”, especially if leadership overtly green-lights it. The only outcome in the race to out-cool everyone is ultimately disaster.
Just a RKT guy.....@barnacles71

I've seen enough from the mutuals who were sorta "hot dogs" say this isnt so good yeah, its cool, love it, but maybe we should consider that when the "hot dogs" say it isn't ok, it just might not be ok @thestinkeye @WMcluskey please add commentary if you feel it's necessary

the blue angels have lost all of my respect after the stunt they pulled. not only were several people momentarily deaf but the plane was so low that any small error would have resulted in dozens, if not hundreds, dead
