Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, (1971) is a prefect example it never did very well in the box office but on dvd it was very well received.

Simple, dvd sales used to save movies like this
Not everything will be a box office hit and if people aren’t willing to buy movies in that manner this will just happen for a lot of good movies unfortunately

I just don't get it. Almost everyone who watched Masters of the Universe enjoyed the movie. Many people went to see it several times. Word of mouth is great. So how can this still be considered a bomb?

@donovanmartin5 Because it's an absolutely brilliant movie and epic summer fantasy-sci-fi action blockbusters that's perfect for cinema viewing, and that alone should have guaranteed it hundreds of millions at the box office. But I guess many modern cinemagoers are looking for something else.

Disappointing for sure, but again Amazon has already expressed that they consider this film a success because of fan reaction alone and anticipates an even greater success with the streaming numbers when it hits Amazon Prime. Not to mention how much merch they’ve sold out.

Unless this film has some kind of historic run on streaming, there’s no way any kind of sequel or spinoff is happening.
No amount of fan excuses, media spins or any kind of PR statements can convince people that Masters of the Universe was anything but a failure.
