WSJ: Tesla Finally Has Its First Semi-Truck and It’s Already a Hit With Truckers. "Truckers who drove it in pilot tests say they loved features including a centered driving position, faster charging and longer range for about $100,000 less than other battery-electric trucks. Angel Rodriguez, a 56-year-old truck driver for Hight Logistics in Long Beach, Calif., recently swapped out a 13-gear diesel truck for a Tesla Semi, which is automatic, for a one-month pilot test. “It’s just easier on your body. It’s less stressful because you’re not really having to engage the clutch and the stick shift.” Big F Transport employs five mechanics to service more than 40 diesel-powered rigs and a fleet of trailer chassis in Wilmington, Calif. “If we go all EV we will only need one [mechanic] to service chassis,” said Geovanny Melendez, the carrier’s VP of operations, who went to see the Semi earlier this month at a ride-and-drive event near the Port of Long Beach. Jennie Abarca, co-founder and CEO of King Fio Trucking in Long Beach, Calif., once worked as a truck dispatcher and her husband is a truck driver, so she knows all too well the toll a diesel engine takes on people’s lungs and hearing. She eventually wants to swap out King Fio’s 27 diesel trucks to create an all-electric fleet. King Fio already has 11 battery-electric trucks from Volvo and Nikola. But the company limits those trucks to shorter trips to and from local ports because they only have a range of about 225 miles. The Semi, by contrast, can travel 500 miles on a single charge, according to Tesla. For King Fio that means two or three round-trips a day from Long Beach to warehouses in the nearby Inland Empire or a single round-trip to Las Vegas. She has 20 Semis on order. “The Teslas change everything,” Abarca said. “It opens up a whole different type of delivery that I can make.”

@FirstDagger @JarodMHamilton Fine, build 100 B-21s then and replace the B-2 and retire the B-52. Pull 20 B-1s out of Davis-Monthan, refurbish them and let them do their role of low altitude, surgical strikes. That’d give 165 bombers covering two very different roles and in good numbers to be effective.

For those of you not familiar. The A-10 Warthog is the ugliest, most absurdly beautiful killing machine to ever take flight. A flying chunk of titanium molded around a gatlin gun style cannon; the equally absurd 30mm GAU-8. It commands the adoration of troops on the ground as the sound of its unmistakable mating call the “brrrrrrp” overhead means several enemy fighters have been neutralized. It flies low and slow delivering death more intimately than any other fighter jet could fathom. Cloaked in armor, it’s rumored to be able to take damage to 70% of its airframe and still land with ease. It doesn’t need a long or even paved runway. The uppity nerds running the Air Force have decided to “phase them out” this year… yet here they are continuing to “get some”. I personally think that @USMC should take the them over… they fit perfectly in our “take old shit and make it great” culture.

I’d share if I wanted to reveal my anonymity, but it’s a place with vast desert, really pretty colorful flowers in spring, horses, very little crime/homeless problems, locals all know each other, good Western food - my favorite place on Earth, but sadly changing as it is starting to get more crowded Flagstaff definitely was gorgeous and had its positives, but with the homeless/college town/tourists, and other issues, I couldn’t do it anymore. I’m glad you’re liking it more than Tucson though!

@zabriskieepoint @Hunster87 @JackChambersGB I lived in Tucson for a year back in 2018 and I can confidently say 90 percent of it is a dump. No highways through the middle so driving takes forever to go anywhere. Everything south of 22nd is a 3rd world country and the amount of druggies walking around the sidewalks is nuts

I agree with you. I remember I went to Tucson and it was pretty awful; I just view Flag as a slightly better Tucson with trees and nicer weather. I think I was just insanely let down from Flagstaff since I came from a city where Flag was a downgrade, rather than Tucson where it’d be an upgrade
