Behold!: my list Had the most trouble sorting out B and C tiers; the rest was pretty easy. (Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy most of it)

You realize that if The Empire Strikes Back was released in December of 2017 the narrative around it would be the same today as The Last Jedi, right?

@KooHo_jin @BillTheKid1603 Finn’s lesson there isn’t “it’s never ok to sacrifice yourself” It’s more like “are you fighting the bad guys to satisfy your righteous anger, or are you actually making a difference for the people you care about”

@BillTheKid1603 you're leaving out a character's entire 'plan' buiilding up to the biggest money shot from their heroic sacrifice, followed by a character in one of the movie's eight other plot lines resolving that arc with "it is *never* ok to sacrifice yourself"

TLJ glazers simply ignore the Leia Poppins scene, turning the one promising character into le funny black man, Rose destroying the resistance for no reason, marvel esq quips and how every 10 mins immersion is broken
Cassie Pritchard@hecubian_devil

Bzzt wrong. TLJ is the only Good mainline Star Wars film besides Empire. As opposed to “good with caveats”, eg “better than the other prequels,” “flawed but charming” etc

@KTVindicare @muaddibstyle @JboiHQ While I wouldn’t say he’s necessarily a competent villain, he’s undoubtedly powerful, and that combined with his short temper made him feel unpredictable and dangerous. He was very clearly losing control.

@muaddibstyle @JboiHQ And I think you're reaching trying to find things to justify the weakness of the storytelling in the movie. And Like I said to the other guy, if you think Kylo Ren would have been a good villain for the third movie, tell me how. How do you think it would have worked?

Star Wars fans literally cannot fathom a third part of a trilogy not being about defeating Palpatine or a Palpatine knockoff

@Hman3488 @MrJulianR1 I hear you but the uncertainty of what he’d do next is so good. Tay Kolma, Syril & Mon Mothma’s driver all show signs of a conscience but unfortunately at this stage the rebellion couldn’t afford to risk it so they have to die. Adds to the tragedy.

@MrJulianR1 I think it’s annoying that they create the perfect setup for Syril to defect, to regret his actions, and to realize he’s standing with evil, only to kill him off right as his character arc starts getting interesting.

There’s three “redemptions” in Star Wars A: they die right after being good B: they actually didn’t do any bad things C: we’re going to ignore the bad things I know redemption is a big thing in Star Wars but I also wanna actually see them redeeming themselves
Kerrcarr 🌘🟡🌘🌘 (🔴)🌘 🟡🌘🌘🌘@Kerrcarr01

I wonder if Duchess Bo Katan ever brought any former Death Watch Members to justice for the abduction of Ming-Po women as slaves while they were hiding out in Carlac Oh wait, she was second in command of those terrorists while they committed those crimes AND MURDERED THEM

@IlGlaz @SithZealot Would you mind going into this a little more? I’m so curious as I’ve never seen them compared before. Do you mean between the Luke/Kylo and Obi-Wan/Vader relationships or something else?

@SithZealot I see Obi-Wan Kenobi as a streaming companion to The Last Jedi. Thematically and narratively they compliment each other perfectly. No surprise that some folks reacted to both poorly and flat-out refused to engage with what the stories are saying, instead decrying "plot holes".

Genuinely think the issue with Kenobi is that people just didn’t get it. It was extremely clear, and maybe the show didn’t deliver as an episodic tale, but it was easily the most meaningful Star Wars to come out in years.

@GoldJustMLP @TatooineSons I’d say the character development was important, but even disregarding that, Luke and Snoke both die, doesn’t that count?

Dude, no matter the numbers you reference, from an entirely objective structural perspective, it literally could have been cut out of the trilogy entirely and nothing would have fundamentally changed any more than the opening credit scroll of Rise of Skywalker alongside Palpatine's return.

It’s so silly to say this. The Last Jedi has a 93% on Metacritics and a 91% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. These scores are from pros who make a living by studying and discussing and commenting on films. If you don’t like the movie, just say you don’t like the movie. But stop trying to sound like you have some expert level understanding of filmmaking.
Blackchibidono@GoldJustMLP

@TatooineSons Clearly not for it's plot structure or storytelling. In my experience it is always either for the stunning visuals or the fact that other people don't like it. And yes, I agree it had a lot of visual flare.

@JonathanKoan @filippoq01 @SCentralized Creatives are entitled to be properly compensated for their work, but someone gaining access to a creative work while a massive corporation loses a small bit of money is a net positive. Art and media is just that essential to the human experience, I’d say.

@JonathanKoan @filippoq01 @SCentralized Or older works, frozen up due to rights distribution issues like companies closing down? Or where rights holders can’t agree? Or where the media is no longer available? We’d be losing out on so much valuable work.

Piracy from billion dollar soulless companies is good (especially for access and regional distribution!) but there’s also something to be said about supporting industry and artists you love. Comics don’t get made unless they sell. So this is a big gray area.

@SCentralized Yes, whether true or not doesn’t matter to me, how its existence affects all the characters thoughts and behaviours is infinitely more interesting

Brother, stop with this chart that you whip out every time you whine about Andor. They do not tell the story of the long term picture which Tony has talked about many times. Bet on it. 😏

@matpolloy @ThatWeirdoAldo From your POV. I’ve seen Nielsen’s charts, I’ve seen Rings of Power beat Andor, I’m not the 1 who’s wrong here, you are. You can’t see that cuz you’re too alt-left to see that as MAGA is too alt-right to see Mando & Grogu won’t fail. P.S. Ahsoka S1 had more views over Andor S1.

@CH4R10T_TV She definitely was still tempted, Kylo just got to her too late. If she hadn’t found belonging in the Resistance I think she’d definitely have joined him

My problem with the execution was basically that it's afraid to commit. Rey fails in the mirror, so she should fail when she confronts Kylo Ren. She should be tempted to darkness, but that plot thread gets dropped by Act 3.
ChronoKatie - Now Playing Alien Isolation@ChronoKatie

TLJ is a bad movie, but almost no one gets why. The ideas, such as Luke being disillusioned with the force, and Rey being a nobody, are amazing. The actual problem is that they are executed horrendously. The movie also have a HUGE tone problem

@LibZionistNerd @bdquinn I think Hux betraying Kylo would have worked much better if he’d tried to assume military control over the First Order, not by feeding information to the Resistance

@bdquinn I mean, in a better movie, that might have worked. Same thing with “I’m the spy!” In a better movie, the revelation that the Big Bad was secretly the mole would be amazing. But nope, it just comes across as stupid.
