Indonesian forces claimed to have shot 3 West Papuan freedom fighters in Intan Jaya this week.
The Liberation Army refuted this, saying two were civilians (including Yusak Sondogau who died), and only one was their member.

Shootouts between the Liberation Army and Indonesian forces have been going for 3 days.
Yusak Sondogau, who according to locals was a civilian, was shot dead. A paramilitary policeman was also killed.

The Melanesian Spearhead Group has appointed Fiji and Papua New Guinea prime ministers Sitiveni Rabuka and James Marape as special envoys to Indonesia to "address the West Papua issue", a move that has been welcomed by the Pacific Conference of Churches.

This is a very welcome appointment. Hopefully it helps to implement the MSG's call for an investigation in West Papua by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Indonesia should listen to their Pacific and Melanesian neighbours and facilitate this visit now
