📍 European Parliament | #IranProtests
This week, Members of the European Parliament delivered one of the clearest messages yet: Iran’s repression will not be normalised and impunity must end.
🗣 Roberta Metsola (President of the European Parliament, EPP):
“This House will not aid in legitimising a regime that sustains itself through torture, repression and murder.”
Under her leadership, Iranian regime representatives have been barred from Parliament premises — signalling that business-as-usual is over.
🗣 Hannah Neumann MEP (Greens/EFA), Chair of the EP Delegation for relations with Iran:
“This Parliament has been calling for the IRGC to be listed as a terrorist organisation for years.”
She challenged continued resistance by Member States despite overwhelming evidence of the IRGC’s role in repression and killings.
🗣 Evin Incir MEP (S&D):
“Words are not enough anymore.”
She called for decisive EU action, including the designation of the IRGC and accountability for executions and mass arrests.
🗣 Daniel Attard MEP (S&D):
“Human rights are not negotiable.”
He warned against double standards and urged the EU to match its values with concrete measures.
🇪🇺 From EPP, Greens, Social Democrats and Renew voices alike, MEPs are calling for:
• Proscription of the IRGC
• Targeted, enforceable sanctions
• Release of all those detained for peaceful protest
• Accountability for killings, torture and executions
#IOPHR stands with this cross-party call for action.
Defending human rights in Iran is not a partisan issue - it is a moral and legal obligation.
