A former prosecutor and #AwamiLeague leader has died in #Satkhira District Jail, bringing the total number of AL-affiliated political prisoners who have died in #custody since Aug 2024 to at least 47. Former Satkhira District Court Public Prosecutor Abdul Latif died in the early hours of 25 May 2026 while in the custody of the district prison authorities. He had been incarcerated since 13 December 2025 after being implicated in eight murder and vandalism cases filed in connection with the events of Jul-Aug 2024. His son has also been implicated in three murder cases and remains in prison. Abdul Latif was an adviser to the Awami League’s Satkhira District Committee and served as Acting President of the Satkhira district unit of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, a pro-AL #lawyers’ organisation. According to reports, Latif fell seriously ill with severe chest pain at around 3:00 am on Monday. He died while undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital. His death raises the total number of Awami League-affiliated individuals who have died in prison custody since Aug 2024 to at least 47. Allegations of #torture and denial of proper medical treatment have been a recurring theme in many of these deaths. Yet, much like the #Yunus-led Interim Govt before it, the #Tarique Rahman-led #BNP Govt appears entirely unbothered by the disproportionate number of Awami League political prisoners dying, often under questionable circumstance, in prisons across the country. Three men are seen forcibly cutting the beard and hair of an elderly Baul folk singer. The old man struggles desperately to resist, but eventually fails. Helpless and humiliated, he finally gives up, cursing his attackers with the words: “Allah will judge you.” The incident took place in 2025 at Kashiganj Bazar in the Tarakanda Upazila of #Mymensingh. The victim was 70-year-old Baul artist Halim Uddin Akand. The viral assault became yet another disturbing symbol of the hostile climate faced by artists and cultural practitioners during the 18-month rule of Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad #Yunus’ interim administration. During that period, there were repeated reports of attacks on the homes, institutions, and organisations of artists and cultural workers, including incidents of assault, vandalism, looting, intimidation, and arson. Over the course of those one and a half years, at least 2,000 individuals connected to arts and cultural sector reportedly faced #mob violence, targeted attacks, false criminal cases, threats, harassment, and coercion. There were also multiple allegations of forced resignations from cultural and institutional positions. The list of victims included poets, litterateurs, writers, dramatists, film artists, actors and actresses, painters, dancers, musicians, and many others associated with #Bangladesh’s broader cultural fraternity. Particularly affected were practitioners of #folk and rural #Bengali cultural traditions, including Bauls, Sufis, Palagan performers, Jatra artists, and village theatre groups. Many reportedly stopped performing altogether out of fear for their safety. Some were forced to leave their localities, while others abandoned artistic practice entirely after facing sustained intimidation and social pressure. Many of these attacks were allegedly carried out under the banner of “Touhidi Janata.” However, various investigations and reports indicated that hardline #Islamist groups such as #HefazateIslam played a leading role in several incidents involving mob sieges, intimidation campaigns, and #violence targeting #artists and cultural events. It should be noted that during the Yunus administration, Hefazat gained unprecedented mainstream political recognition. One of the organisation’s senior leaders, AFM Khalid Hossain, was appointed as an adviser (effectively a ministerial position) in Yunus’ advisory council (which functioned as the interim cabinet). Now that the Interim Govt is no longer in power, a critical question remains: will arts and culture receive meaningful protection under a future BNP-led government? Alarm bells are ringing across the #press and #media community in #Bangladesh, as police reportedly collecting information on #journalists under highly questionable circumstances. In an alarming development for press freedom, journalists and media workers in #Dhaka have reportedly been receiving calls from law enforcement seeking extensive personal and professional information, though the purpose of this data collection remains unclear. According to several journalists, police are asking for details including National ID numbers, information about personal assets and wealth, political affiliations, involvement in past political movements, and whether they benefited from the previous government, among other “queries”. Those who received the calls have also complained about the interrogative and aggressive tone adopted by law enforcement personnel. Some journalists alleged that they were threatened with home raids if they failed to answer all questions “properly.” One journalist who received such a call, speaking to local media on condition of anonymity, said that no state institution has the right to question a journalist about his or her political beliefs. He described the development as deeply concerning for press freedom and warned that it could also jeopardize journalists’ personal safety. He further criticized the hostile manner in which the questioning was conducted, saying it felt as though law enforcement officers were “interrogating a suspect.” National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan also raised concerns about both the method and tone of the information-gathering process. According to Ayub, if the government simply intended to create a database of journalists, it could have done so through official channels by issuing notices or sending forms to media houses. Instead, he argued, phone calls from law enforcement and intelligence agencies, interviews conducted at journalists’ homes, and questions regarding political views are “highly unorthodox.” Meanwhile, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Sazzad Alam Topu said the police initiative has already created a chilling effect among journalists. গণঅভ্যুত্থানের দুই বছর না পেরোতেই কিছু সাংবাদিক নামধারী ব্যক্তি টকশোতে বসে জুলাই ম্যাসাকারকেই প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করার চেষ্টা করছে। কেউ প্রশ্ন তুলছে, “কিসের সহিংসতা?”, কেউ আবার দাবি করছে হেলিকপ্টার থেকে শেখ হাসিনা গুলি চালানোর নির্দেশ দেননি। এসব বক্তব্য আসলে সেই পুরোনো বয়ানকেই নতুনভাবে প্রতিষ্ঠা করার চেষ্টা, যেটা দিয়ে গণহত্যা ও দমন-পীড়নের দায় এড়ানো যায়। একইভাবে এখন প্রচার করা হচ্ছে, হাসিনা নাকি টুঙ্গিপাড়ায় যেতে চেয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু ওয়াকার তাকে দিল্লি নিয়ে গেছে। অর্থাৎ সব দায় অন্যের ওপর চাপিয়ে ইতিহাসকে নতুনভাবে সাজানোর চেষ্টা চলছে। পাটোয়ারীর ওপর হামলার ঘটনাতেও দেখা গেল একই কৌশল। হামলার করল বিএনপি ,আবার উল্টো তার বিরুদ্ধেই মামলা হলো। এদিকে শত শত আওয়ামী লীগ নেতাকর্মী বিএনপিতে যোগ দিচ্ছে, আর জুলাইয়ের আন্দোলনের কর্মী ও যোদ্ধাদের ওপর হামলার অভিযোগও উঠছে। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে যারা গণঅভ্যুত্থানের বিরুদ্ধে ছিল, তারাই এখন নতুন পরিচয়ে ফিরে এসে প্রভাব বিস্তার করছে। সবচেয়ে উদ্বেগের বিষয় হলো, টকশো ও মিডিয়ায় এসব মানুষকে নিয়মিত ডেকে এনে তাদের বক্তব্যকে “স্বাভাবিক” হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হচ্ছে। প্রশ্ন হলো, এই নর্মালাইজেশন কাদের স্বার্থে? যারা জুলাইয়ের রক্ত, সহিংসতা ও দমন-পীড়নের স্মৃতি মুছে ফেলতে চায়, তাদের জন্যই কি এই নতুন বয়ান তৈরি করা হচ্ছে? @NCP4BD @NCPDiasporaUSA @NahidIslam_24 #JulyRevolution #JusticeForHad #everyonefollowers #highlightsシ゚

একটা সময় হাসিনা স্বয়নে স্বপনে শুধু জামাতের ভূত দেখতো। সবকিছুর জন্য জামাত শিবিরকে দায়ী করতো।bnp ও তাই করছে। এতে সমস্যা বাড়ছে। ফলে জনগণ একসময় অতিষ্ঠ হয়ে আপনাদের বিরুদ্ধে অ্যাকশান নেবে। জাশি তখন জনগণের সাথে এক হয়ে আপনাদেরকে শুধু একটা ধাক্কা দিবে। ততদিন বিএনপি আরও পোচতে থাক।।

একটা পুরোনো রাজনৈতিক সংস্কৃতি আবার ফিরছে—ভিন্নমত দমন, হামলাকারীদের প্রশ্রয়, আর উল্টো ভুক্তভোগীদের বিরুদ্ধে মামলা-গ্রেফতার। আদালতকেও ধীরে ধীরে দলীয় সুবিধা আদায়ের জায়গায় পরিণত করা হচ্ছে। ঝিনাইদহ থেকে কিছুক্ষণ আগে তারেক রেজাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। অথচ যারা প্রকাশ্যে নাসিরুদ্দিন পাটোয়ারী ও তারেক রেজার উপর হামলা চালিয়েছে, তারা সবাই আজ জামিনে বাইরে। অয়ন রহমানকে গতরাতে ডিবি তুলে নেওয়ার পরও এখন পর্যন্ত আদালতে হাজির করা হয়নি।আজ হয়তো এসব দেখে কেউ কেউ হাসবে, তামাশা করবে, নিজেদের খুব শক্তিশালী ভাববে। কিন্তু ক্ষমতার অপব্যবহার কখনো স্থায়ী হয় না। জুলুম জমতে জমতে একসময় পাহাড় হয়, আর সেই পাহাড় একদিন ফিরে আসে তাদের দিকেই, যারা ভেবেছিল সবকিছু নিয়ন্ত্রণে আছে। গ্রেট গোয়িং বিএনপি উইথ ইয়োর প্ল্যান।
