@McNasty I think the Christian perspective is that you either have to have both faith and works or faith alone, but never just works alone, so the latter

i wonder what Haibara actually said to Nanami that made him react “i cant say that, i’ll become a curse for Yuji”. He really cared about not accidentally becoming a curse for Yuji🤍

@BlackwellLuke6 @sivori They did that backwards. The major pre-Etruscan Latin dieties like Janus were made perfunctory after the adoption of Etruscanized Greek gods

@sivori No. There are way more social-economic-cultural circumstances that separate Ancient Rome from India. At a minimum, I couldn't imagine the Romans inventing new deities, making the Olympians minor deities.

The deities of the Vedic core (Indra, Agni, etc.) originate from Indo-Aryan traditions and share a lineage with the Greco-Roman and Norse pantheons. To me, modern India is what the modern West might have been without the advent of the Near-Eastern religions of the book, the arid Abrahamic traditions. The dark-skinned deities or mother deities like Kali, Durga, and aspects of Shiva originating from the south and mountain regions show how Hinduism absorbed indigenous Indus Valley traditions, as well as tribal, and possibly Harappan elements.
abcdent@abcdentminded

I'm a fan of the Hindu creepypasta god who predates the entire religion, looks nothing like any other member of the pantheon, and whose name translates to "Lord of the Universe"

@cben @ThatchEffendi I said kind of like but yeah Christianity is certainly more polytheistic than the faith of the seven, you're right

Weirdly persistent trend in Fantasy settings: Set up a Polytheistic religion to talk about Christianity. Most obvious is Faith of the Seven in Game of Thrones, which doesn't make a whole lot of sens and seems incredibly listless partially because GRRM was traumatized by his Catholic upbringing, and not in a fun way like Frank Herbert.

Breaking: I just confirmed through a Bonding company used for his past arrest that Dalton, aka ChudtheBuilder, violated the terms of their bond agreement with his arrest in downtown Nashville Saturday night. He has an active court case in Montgomery County that was recently “bound over” from General Sessions court to Circuit Court as he has been harassing people in downtown Nashville while live-streaming. This violation could void the bail that Metro-Nashville/Davidson County issued and keep him incarcerated until there is a resolution in his current case. A violation usually carries a bond revocation, forfeiture of money, and pretrial detention which can lead to stiffer sentencing, difficulty securing a release from incarceration, and potentially new charges. Why does this matter to me? See the video quoted in the post below. That’s me. Jail won’t be easy for someone like him. Let’s hope a critical lesson is learned in jail. But Karma always comes for you when you’re a terrible person…and it found its latest target. *Disclaimer: this is not the mugshot from last night’s arrest*

@beyoncegarden Ate him up where? She literally has a valley girl accent. She’s American. She can say her genetics are German but should stop tryna pretend like she has the cultural specificity of someone born and raised in Germany. Which is what she’s trying to portray.

@CSandbatch >scottish pejorative for English >if you use it and youre scottish youre insulting yourself Instead of this contradictory nonsense you could just either admit you were wrong or stop dying on this stupid hill repeatedly

Hilariously the derivation is middle English (sutheren) & a Scottish pejorative for the English. So if you're Scottish (again, you're not) you're insulting yourself.
David@oisindayo

@CSandbatch I say Southron because I'm Scottish and suspect it came from Scots in that context too. I like how it sounds. I'm calling you it.

@InnerDelicious you shouldn’t erase someone’s disability. i’d say it’s pretty important info that she was lobotomized because of her disability

well no. she genuinely had a severe disability. this is a letter she wrote at 20 years old, showing she had the ability of a 4th grader. she also had increasing rage issues and full on meltdowns. obviously the lobotomy was wrong and fucked up but she wasn’t just an average girl

I will never get over the fact that their father forced Rosemary Kennedy to have a lobotomy because she was being a normal 23-year-old girl who wanted to have fun, and her father said she was ruining the family’s image. He contacted a doctor who told him a lobotomy would “correct” her behavior, but it ended up making her mentally and physically handicapped. She could no longer walk or talk properly and had the mental capacity of a child. Her family was then embarrassed by her condition, so they sent her to live at an institution for the mentally impaired, where she lived until her death in 2005. Her family also didn’t visit her for 20 years, fearing they’d be photographed with her and it would cause a scandal in the press. Most people don’t even know about her existence because the family rarely talked about her. Her siblings didn’t even know where she was until their father's death in 1961. Despite JFK being the president at the time, he still prioritized keeping in contact with her and managing her medical care. It was said that he was extremely protective of her and would visit whenever he was able. Her mother eventually began visiting her after 20 years. Her father never went to see her after she was institutionalized. He was the reason for her disabilities, and he completely abandoned her. Once her siblings discovered where she was, they visited her regularly, and Eunice Kennedy eventually started the Special Olympics because of her. The surviving Kennedy siblings were at Rosemary's side when she passed. She could have lived a normal and happy life, but her father took that away from her because she didn’t meet his expectations. Nothing ever happened to the doctor who was responsible for the lobotomy.

@Many_Bees @alibrooke4ever I think its just muddying the waters for no real reason. What exactly does it add? Its a bit of niche trivia but it doesn't really affect the point that her lobotomy was wrong, and the way much of her family treated her after was callous at best and cruel at worst

@InnerDelicious @alibrooke4ever You honestly think this way? I'm not trying to fight you or dunk on you. I'm legitimately interested in your thought process here. (I agree nobody deserved a lobotomy)
