@Gyan49485 when did he mention "magnus was solely responsible for the chess boom"?

If Magnus was solely responsible for the chess boom and brought in the eyes, why have all his events - champions chess tournament and Freestyle went bankrupt/ shut down/ downsized within 2-3 years?
Sabharinath@MadhuSini39246

@Gyan49485 Gukesh vs Ding had more money in their WC matches because of the chess boom which happened during covid which benefited them and brought more eyes to their games not because they are more popular than Magnus. At least mention that fact.

I know fuckall about chess but this seemed like Gukesh just walking into a positional strangulation. Very ugly move optically to me, black pieces have nowhere to go.

@NepoWorldChamp Funny though that Naka would probably be something like 2770 without his games againts Fabi in the past 4 years

Caruana suffers a temporary 50-elo debuff when he faces Hikaru😭 Good win by TT Man though Sindarov’s pretty much won the tournament. I have him as the early favorite for the title

@Gyan49485 The ironic thing is that Sindarov is hardly known for some godlike prep, Fabi for some reason couldn't remember his QGA file and Naka didn't know one of the main moves in a highly topical position

@ReykjavikOpen ok but still the point using a computer is using the computer-even Magnus talks about there is no more chess discussions it is all about going to the computers to tell people what the move was-

@BishopPair Studying a whole new system like the accelerated dragon (which objectively just isn't at the level of Najdorf, when you consider the candidates) is highly impractical just to have something againts 2. Nc3.

Even if I want to play the Najdorf, I always play 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6, because I find these Grand Prix positions unpleasant after 2…d6. I just let them ‘move order’ me into an accelerated dragon if they like, since they can’t play a maroczy. Pragg - Giri feels like a vindication.

@BishopPair Be6 is a second rate choice when he had many first rate choices to choose for. The problem was the knowledge gap, not opening itself. Prag is accepting a -0.2 pos simply due to knowledge gap.

Not that Giri got crushed out of the opening, but i) I’m not sure how often I find the bailout with 11…Be6 and ii) even after that, it felt a bit practically unpleasant for black.

@isofarro @RenierCast Kramnik, Anand and Topalov were the big 3 in the 2000s. Hard to even consider Gukesh a part of the "big 10"
