@_doublearrow @cranium84 I’m sorry to say but you are wrong. I was the Depot Manager at Willesden in BR days and 90003 gained white ringed buffers. It was always a sign of pride in the fleet. And I’ve encouraged it everywhere I went including Neville Hill, including all my 08’s.

@cranium84 I think the fundamental point of conservation should be to protect culturally significant history; there wasn’t a single Class 90 that had the white buffer trim in the BR era so it probably doesn’t belong on a preserved locomotive :)

Polite reminder to the paintshops at LSL in Crewe and at Neville Hill that the white lining on the buffers not only gives the locomotive the googly eyes look but is historically unfaithful/inauthentic (for Crewe Works, Willesden and Bounds Green who had far better taste)

I know, I was there part of the team to make this happen & had the privilege of naming 57316 FAB 1 with the boss of Brush. We’ve all got lazy though 😤

@NeilBennett29 Absolutely true @NeilBennett29 I’ve just been looking at one of my log book entries. Simply the best apprenticeship in the land and will never be beaten. I was ‘satisfactory’ always with my submissions!

If you did not get good enough A level grades seriously consider an apprenticeship instead of a rubbish degree at a poor university. @J70JDV and I did apprenticeships and have never looked back.

@Peter_Mugridge @DevonJ58 @SRichardBowker @railnigel Totally agree, & more concerning for me is the lack of access to DEP’s, lineside emergency phones & other egress areas. The foliage damaging under frame & bodysides of vehicles is relentless. Worst still is the water flows following roots of all these in bridge structures. Scary!

On the approach to Crewe, going past Crewe South junction, I see the railway is doing a passable impression of the Eden Project. I am all for biodiversity but NOT within the boundaries of the railway. Getting beyond a joke now. Early task for GBR, eh @railnigel.
