Reports say the Mariners need a RH bat and a high-leverage arm, this gets them both.
A Castillo/Polanco swap is a good framework because the money is close.

@Ben_Yoel i think you also have a discussion with holmes and his people that you want him back next year but trading him now helps him get to a contender and removes the QO for him and helps the club with a quick influx of prospect talent, win/win for both in hopes he comes back

There’s definitely an argument for keeping him, giving him the QO and tarnishing his market enough where he pretty much has to return.
For me it all depends what the offers are like. If someone gives you a great offer now you trade him. If the offers aren’t great do the above.

@GoodFundies one year of manea as a 4/5 gives you one year to find his cheaper in house replacement with guys like wenninger, santucci or from trade deadline, it also allows you to be able to spend big on an ace as 4/5 of your staff is pre-arb

Manaea is done now or soon, and Thornton has a 4.30 ERA in Triple-A and most likely won’t be anything meaningful.

That’s on top of his velo being down and arm slot dropping. I think there’s something mechanically wrong with him as opposed to bad luck

Freddy Peralta is a good trade deadline option.

@BlorfGuy @JBackAttack @FoolishBB They are bottom 5 in OAA and fielding run value. If he isn’t striking people out they are putting it in play (and he’s walking people more as you said). More balls in play + more baserunners = more earned runs

@BlorfGuy @CasasBombs @FoolishBB his gb% is up which is why the k rate is down as well as the babip being over .300, leads to xERA and xFIP thats mostly inline with 2024, problem is mets were expecting 2025, a half way decent defense behind him and the numbers will normalize

@CasasBombs @FoolishBB His K rate cratering, FIP increasing, walk% increasing etc, ain’t the defenses fault. Hes just been a worse pitcher this year and I can’t really explain what happened to him. But his ERA is pretty true to his performance so far IMO
