My friend @GinaHollenbeck was a fierce #lungcancer advocate—kind, smart, funny, and unafraid to challenge her own narrative. In her powerful @IASLC #WCLC2021 talk, Gina explains why she stopped leading her story with “I didn’t smoke.” While many feel this pushes back against #stigma, she realized the binary approach of 'guilt and innocence' slows progress and perpetuates a harmful narrative that is profound and far-reaching. Using the stigma to try to erase it only continues to label us, reduce our humanity, and our identity becomes a single story. Let's talk about RISK FACTORS. That's when people ask questions and listen! Since Dana Reeve’s diagnosis, I’ve seen how focusing only on people who “never smoked” divides our community and completely erases the person behind the disease. The truth is simple: NO ONE earns lung cancer, and NO ONE deserves it. Gina's message calls us back to compassion, understanding, and respect. Please listen and help change the conversation. youtu.be/l_uBBmiVkZI?si… #LCAM #LCSM #NoStigma @EGFRResisters @YoungLungCancer @ros1cancer @ALKPositiveinc @Exon20Group @RetRenegades @KRASKickers @NTRKers @BrafBombers @RETpositive @LUNGevity @lcrf_org @AmLungCSI @OncogeneCancer @NLCRTnews @LungCancerRx @heidi_onda @DrewMoghanaki

Hm. X says my account is based in Malaysia. I was recently on a cruise from Tokyo to Bangkok with shipboard wifi provided by Starlink. I logged into X ONCE (on the South China Sea between Hong Kong and Taiwan), 100s of miles from Malaysia. Methinks the algorithm needs more work.

If anyone knows @DRCamidge, they know how patient-focused he's been in his 20 years of leading lung cancer research. (And funny - just ask @JFreemanDaily 😉 .) But he hasn't been doctor only - he's been a stage 4 lung cancer patient, himself. Recently, he decided to open up about his experience after learning of his diagnosis 3 years ago. I had the privilege of hearing more about his experience firsthand and am grateful to him for continuing to help people, in spite of his incredibly busy schedule (BTW this was the 2nd time in 1 month he gave us @Patient_Story his time. The 1st was for our partnership with @ros1cancer on an educational series). Want inspiration on how to approach life? FDA approves taletrectinib for #ROS1 NSCLC based on TRUST I and TRUST II trials showing 1L RR 85-90% with 63-72% of responses lasting ≥12 months and post TKI, RR 52-62%. Taletrectinib has selectivity over TrkB so should have less neurotoxicity. fda.gov/drugs/resource…

The entire STAT staff is updating this story about layoffs at HHS. There will be a lot of info. But the short version is this: a lot of the people who would keep drugs safe and effective, to protect patients in trials, and to fight bird flu and future pandemics are gone -- even though it seems the scientists in charge of directly reviewing new medicines are mostly protected at FDA. Per Robert Califf: "[The FDA] as we’ve known it is finished, with most of the leaders with institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of product development and safety no longer employed.” statnews.com/2025/04/01/hhs…

My approach to treatment is: I’m not looking to throw a Hail Mary touchdown — the odds aren’t in my favor. I need to keep getting first downs. First downs keep me in the game, and the longer I'm in the game, the more time research has to catch up! 22 first downs - think about all the moments and milestones this patient was able to experience with family & friends thanks to SBRT. That is HOPE!

A thoughtful perspective on importance of government-supported research infrastructure. It's not perfect, and could use reform. But you can't reform something that disappeared due to lack of funding for labs, support staff, equipment and office space. nytimes.com/2025/02/14/opi…

DEI is not the same as diversity in clinical trials. Diversity in clinical trials aims to test new drugs in a wide variety of people, because response to some medicines can vary by gender, age, ethnicity, and genetics. statnews.com/2025/01/23/fda…

@OPENoncology @CrozrX @RielyMD @statnews Yes, I do. Until two days ago, the "For You" tab was a train wreck. Miraculously, after my article posted, the ads and random unwanted posts have mostly disappeared from that feed (thanks to whoever made that happen). "Following" still has tons of ads.

@CrozrX @RielyMD @statnews I might also note that I've been active in Twitter cancer communities since 2013. Your reference for Twitter experiences after joining in 2020 might not be the same as mine.

As we embark on Thanksgiving week I want to take a moment to reflect on this year and my family. Unfortunately I lost my sister to lung cancer in August. It was devastating news when she was diagnosed in 2022 and it's still a shock to believe my vibrant, passionate, loving sister is gone. November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. When Susan was diagnosed we had no idea that lung cancer was the number one cancer killer - killing more people than breast, prostate and colon cancer combined. There is also no universal screen the way there is for breast, prostate and colon. There is an urgent need for research to develop better screening methods for this deadly disease. Lung cancer can impact people who smoked and people who never smoked. Our family is committed to bringing awareness to lung cancer and working to develop earlier screening methods. As we sit down for Thanksgiving this year with friends and family I want to share this quote from Susan's blog that she wrote a before she died. "As a person I have changed a lot, and probably the most important lesson I have learned is just to focus and enjoy the present! Life is unpredictable for everyone, with many unknowns, but there is a lot of beauty in everyday life. My goals going forward are to enjoy the present as much as possible and fight for better understanding and cures for this disease." May you all enjoy the moment, enjoy your friends and family and appreciate the beauty in everyday life. blog.youtube/inside-youtube…
