If a monkey hoarded more bananas than it could eat, while most of the other monkeys starved, scientists would study that monkey to figure out what was wrong with it. When humans do it, we put them on the cover of Forbes.

About 7 years ago a former High Level MLB Scout told me this. The three most exaggerated numbers in H.S. Baseball: Height. Velo. Pop time. Everybody’s 6’2. Everybody throws 90. Every catcher is “1.9 on the button.” Until the game starts. Thoughts?

@BSBSCOUT People will spend thousands on special equipment, training but neglect nutrition and recovery. I’m glad to hear this family invests in proper nutrition. I do think youth sports has become a big business and sadly not enough time spent on the fundamentals at ages 10-18YO.

The average college player spends 3,000 hours on their game in 4 years & only 4% of that is in actual games. The rest is grind. It takes mental & physical stamina, toughness and a love for the process. Compete every day, not just when the lights are on. That’s what separates you.

@TheBuckeyeNut I was in B deck when Oregon was in the shoe, he’s not wrong. The old folks in the stadium want a country club atmosphere and we’re complaining when people were standing up. Telling people to sit down…got to get rid of these fans. But that was ‘21, The Shoe has been better since.

@VictoryBellOSU Lost 1 game in his final season and Beat SEC team in sugar bowl. Was big ten champs 5 seasons in a row before his final year. He recruited Braxton miller to be the next QB. Consistently winning and you compare to Iowa who would dream of a single season like that.

@JLucroy20 Your argument is valid but OKS wasn’t the culprit of the missed block, trying to pick the ball in the dirt was.Two pitches later he blocked the ball from a one knee stance.I saw Louisville in the CWS change from OKS to traditional throughout the inning based on runners or count.

Pitch framing will be become irrelevant once the robo umps take over or they develop a challenge system on missed pitches from umpires. Much more focus should be placed on the target presentation to give the pitcher a consistently clean target. The biggest issue I have with the glove drop, snatch method is the target disappears mid pitch, and the pitcher’s control could be effected. Blocking the ball has been greatly effected by the one knee down, but teams, specifically the analytic departments, have decided that blocking isn’t as important as the framing. However, because pitchers throw harder and have nastier pitches, blocking is going to be harder and therefore more important to focus on, imo. Giving away free bases is not ideal. Turning balls into strikes is an important part of the position, however, it alone is not determinate of a team’s success. My favorite phrase to use is that “you can’t frame your way to a World Series championship.” It takes much more than that. Whenever you focus so much on one component of the position it takes away from others that have much more impact. In the case of leadership and game calling, there isn’t anything that rival their importance in my experience.
Foul Territory@FoulTerritoryTV

John Smoltz rips into how catchers are being taught nowadays to emphasize pitch framing in a way that sacrifices their ability to block. "There's no way the probability of success is going to go up that way."
