Following extensive public input, today we rejected @ATT‘s request to withdraw as a carrier of last resort and opened a new Rulemaking process to address such telecommunications service obligations. Read more: docs.cpuc.ca.gov/PublishedDocs/…

Our vote to dismiss AT&T’s application made clear that we will protect customers’ access to basic telephone service – no matter where they live, income, or access to other forms of communication. #COLR #universalservice

On February 22, @JReynoldsCPUC and I attended a public participation hearing in Ukiah in Mendocino County regarding AT&T California’s application to be relieved of its Carrier of Last Resort (COLR) and Eligible Telecommunications Carrier (ETC) status.

Sunrun
Sunrun@Sunrun·
Sunrun is honored to deliver energy equity on behalf of low-income seniors at St. Mary’s Gardens in Oakland, CA with a new multifamily rooftop solar installation. The newly installled solar panels will provide tenants with 117 kilowatts of solar power- generating enough energy to offset nearly two-thirds of tenants’ energy usage, saving each household about $35 per month on their electricity bill through virtual net metering. Joseph Wang, an 88-year-old St. Mary’s Garden resident, said "Elderly citizens like myself are unfortunately often overlooked on energy issues. As someone on a fixed income, $35 a month is a significant savings that will positively impact my life. I’m very proud of St. Mary’s staff for improving our buildings’ energy efficiency and making our neighborhood and community more sustainable with this solar installation.” More at: sun.run/StMarys #energyequity #affordablehousing #renewableenergy #InflationReductionAct @CalSOMAH @APEN4EJ @CCHNC @californiapuc @Sunrun @ScottSarem

I was proud to support the Governor in his rollout of the California Clean Energy Transition Plan yesterday in Richmond. The plan is an actionable roadmap with concrete steps to reaching our decarbonization goals quickly, affordably, and equitably.

While I don't see this solution as precedent for other communities around the state, I do think that we will learn a great deal from choices that customers make with this option--a real-world opportunity to learn about the barriers to electrification in disadvantaged communities.

People in this disadvantaged community who choose the electrification option will not get gas lines, but they will get the appliances needed to support electric heating, water heating, clothes drying, and cooking at home.

Hi @MichaelWWara, so glad to hear your interest in Santa Nella's energy future. As you mention, my colleagues and I adopted my alternate proposal last week that will give people in the community the option to fully electrify instead of extending gas lines to their homes.
Michael Wara@MichaelWWara

But in a case where an actual decision has to be made about a real community (Santa Nella), the ALJ has recommended installing a brand new gas system paid for by all ratepayers. In addition, there has been very little public process in the community to educate and get input.
