Trading one of our WR's now that we got Waddle would be insane... I see the speculation that the Broncos should move Sutton or Franklin, and that would be a mistake. This room now has 3 complimentary pieces, each serving a different role. Sutton is your big body possession receiver. Waddle is your utility knife and YAC guy. Franklin can do a bit of both. It is a beautiful setup now.

@nickkorte If he has a solid 2026 season, are the Broncos more likely to pay out the remainder of this deal or sign him to a new deal that spreads the money out? Or asked differently, when is he most likely going to be seeking a new deal?

@audavidb people will roll their eyes at this, but the guy is a winner - he has the "it" quality everyone is always looking for at the position. Intangibles that inspire confidence in his teammates. If you are only looking at stats and air yards, you'll miss 50% of it.

What exactly do people not like about Nix? Avoids sacks, scrambles, hits his guys in flow, comes up big at the biggest moments, very durable, good teammate, good human, can make every throw on the field.

@MileHighReport I'm fine with this. For all his strides, he was still out of position, off balance, and covered too often for how much volume he got.

Gut reaction, the Waddle trade hurts Troy Franklin the most. Pat Bryant is your big body blocking specialist + he looked good as a WR, Mims has special teams value and big play ability. Franklin is borderline game day inactive if everyone is healthy.

I’m so fired up about the Waddle trade… Broncos had to take a swing. The value really isn’t as much as it looks. The 30th pick is 2nd round value. Sutton, Waddle, and Franklin on the field together is going to be sick! Grade the trade…

From the Broncos perspective, I kind of get it, but that's a lot of chips on the table given that you're still in the same division as Patrick Lavon Mahomes the second

So this is a nice return for Miami, and makes sense for their timeline. A QB making below average starter $ doesn't preclude them from rebuilding. My question is: Did Malik Willis know about these plans? Because...this is a really rough situation now.
Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter

Broncos are trading for Miami WR Jaylen Waddle, per source. Denver receives: Waddle and Dolphins’ 4th-round pick (11th in round) in this year’s draft. Miami receives: Broncos’ 1st round pick (30th overall) along with their late 3rd and 4th round picks (30th in each round) in this year’s draft.

The Broncos now have Jaylen Waddle, Marvin Mims, and Troy Franklin. With Courtland Sutton and Pat Bryant in hand, gotta imagine they'll hear trade calls on Mims and Franklin

@MaseDenver I think it's entirely possible Denver paid too much, but also kind of myopic to view this through the lens of past production. Waddle has juice that Pittman does not. A much more dynamic player.

Pittsburgh got Michael Pittman Jr. by trading a R6 pick (getting back a R7). Denver got Jaylen Waddle by trading R1, R3 and R4 picks (getting back a R4): Since 2021: Pittman: 445-4751-24 Waddle: 373-5039-26 Since 2021, per 17 games: Pittman: 92-985-5 Waddle: 81-1098-6 Since 2023: Pittman: 258-2744-14 Waddle: 194-2668-12 Since 2023, per 17 games: Pittman: 90-952-5 Waddle: 73-1008-5 Waddle's more productive, but not by much. Denver got a talented receiver, but the Broncos didn't get a steal. If anything, the Broncos paid too high a price. Bottom line: Only if they win a Super Bowl will it be worth it. If they get the big ring, the trade is a success. That's how this will be measured.

@TheAtlantic on a loosely related note - @TheAtlantic AI reader says "quote/unquote" so much it renders some articles unlistenable. it doesn't say "period" after every sentence, which tells me this is a solvable problem. @elevenlabs

Broncos are bringing back DL Matt Henningsen on one-year deal, source confirms. Missed all of last year with Achilles injury suffered during joint practice with 49ers. Played all 34 games for Broncos in 2022-23, then practice squad in 2024. Not ready to build rockets yet.

@Rossputin I agree with all of this, and it's worth saying out loud that this administration is actively lying and obfuscating to prop markets up - which will make for a harder landing if they really lose control in a visible way... We're teetering.

At the moment, I think the stock market (and maybe even oil) are too complacent. "The public" has for at least a year been buying the dips in the stock market as the professionals were selling. And the public has been right every time. Will they be right again? I mean, they sure seem to have enough cash to outlast the pros. But it feels to me like there are more ways this war can go worse than expected than there are ways it can go better than expected. And how will the public react when they're facing significant losses after buying the dip? They haven't really seen that before. Strong hands? Weak hands? Who knows? Another way to put it, I feel like the short-to-mid term has twice as much downside risk as upside potential. 10% down vs 5% up? 20% vs 10%? Somewhere in that range. This is NOT me saying the market can't go up. It surely can. But I think it's not scared enough of this war and I think most folks don't understand just how challenging it might be to get normal supplies of oil going again even if the strait reopens if it takes more than a few more weeks for that to happen. Great line in a Reuters article from an expert on oil markets: "This situation is not manageable without some demand destruction and much higher prices, unless the conflict ends." I feel like the last couple days have been selling opportunities. But to be clear, I'm not trading on this so my opinion is worth roughly what you just paid for it. investing.com/news/commoditi… @jonnajarian

Henningsen was on the field a bunch in his first two seasons. The Broncos' DL depth kept him off the field in 2024 and then the injury in 2025. With JFM gone, Henningsen has a chance at the active roster. At the very least, he's great practice squad depth.
Chris Tomasson@christomasson

Source says the #Broncos are re-signing defensive lineman Matt Henningsen. He was a restricted free agent that they didn't tender.
