The notion that the best—or only—way to vote is whatever they did in 1812 is just stupid and has nothing to do with anything but reducing voter turnout. Mail in voting is so secure and convenient it’s how Trump just voted.

@ronhenzel @KenShepherd I never said they can't get married. There's no scriptural rule saying they can't, just as there is no rule saying the repentant child molester can't run the church day care. Is it wise? It could be for both cases, but that's going to require wisdom and a judgement call.

As a Catholic, I actually agree that grace transforms lives and that we should celebrate real stories of repentance and redemption.
I think the backlash to what I’m saying reveals something Nietzsche diagnosed correctly: Christian language can sometimes be twisted into a kind of slave‑morality pretzel, where weakness is canonized as being virtuous and any natural, intuitive standard is treated as a form of oppression.
A Catholic ethic of marriage is supposed to hold together both mercy and justice, as a union of both nature and grace.
Instead, what a lot of young men see is pastors weaponizing the word "grace" to erase the consequences for past choices from women while demanding limitless sacrifice from men in the name of the gospel. This is just ressentiment, as it certainly isn’t the Church’s moral tradition.
