@ankurnagpal Tough decision, but definitely smart to go after the open rates. Enjoying the newsletter, keep it up.

@greiser The majority of brokers are going after the uneducated millennial. Never mind parents not teaching kids fundamentals, schools aren't helping either, look at where that got us. Almost need to reeducate an entire generation.

@buildthatidea The overwhelm in the space is bogging down a lot of great minds. Focus and throughput will ultimately win.

@homeservicebase Super solid results in 12 months. Well done!

Local SEO seems much simpler than I thought a few years ago.
The total budget for backlinks was less than $5k.
I didn’t do anything beyond what you can find here on X or what I occasionally talk about here.
Here’s what worked:
1. Proper website structure with dedicated location pages
2. On-page SEO with dynamically updated content (e.g., reviews, completed jobs) and structured data (JSON-LD)
3. Correct association of the website with the GBP – matching address, phone number, and company name.
4. Basic citations for each location, linked to the website.
5. Moderate link building – nothing too expensive, most guest posts were under $200
6. Reputation and some brand traffic
7. Time
In one year, I beat 90% of local competitors in search results. I hope to beat the last 10% in the next 3–6 months.

After 7 months of writing, I finished my essay!
I think agency might be the most important idea of the 21st century

Something brand old is coming.
Once upon a time you owned what you paid for, you controlled what you depended on, and your privacy and security were your own business.
We think it’s that time again.

@thesamparr Listened to this a few days ago. Super interesting episode.

This ep on finances with @profgalloway was very good.
- worth +$100m. still anxious about $
- "america's the best place to make $, europes best to spend it."
- Spends $400k month, mostly experiences
- Spending on fam makes him feel masculine
Really interesting (link below)

@thejustinwelsh This very much depends on stages of life. There are things you need to learn early on in your career working with teams or at scale that makes it possible for you to do what you do now. Without those, solo wouldn’t work. There are anomalies.

@XavierHelgesen Very cool! Congrats on the deal. Got to see some of the inner working over the past few years, looking forward to seeing the changes.

@ShaanVP @markmanson Mark is a beast. Looking forward to the interview next week.
English

I'm editing my interview with @markmanson , (the dude who wrote- The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck, 10m+ copies sold)
Here's a few of his insights that are still clattering around in my head:
#1 - WHY DO PICKUP LINES WORK?
Mark used to be a pickup artist (his nickname was 'Entropy') teaching guys how to talk to women.
About pickup lines:
"The pickup line isn't for the girl. It's for YOU... The pickup line just gets you through your own social anxiety and gives you the courage to go say something (say anything)."
#2 - HIS ADVICE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE A SUCCESSFUL WRITER LIKE HIM
"Write 100 blog posts then come ask me again".
^This is the same exact advice @MrBeast says to anyone who wants to be a YouTuber.
This advice is great for two reasons. (1) It works. they will get better by doing 100 reps (2) It filters out people who aren't serious about it. He's down to help, but only people that are actually going to do the work
#3 - WHY ANDREW TATE IS SO COMPELLING?
"Andrew Tate is what men with no self esteem think high self esteem look like".
But @Cobratate is a powerful combination of Charisma, Backstory (kickboxing champ), and an MLM. that's a deadly combo.
#4 - WHY MOST SELF-HELP SUCKS
"Good advice is boring....but bad advice SELLS"
But then you hear a guy stand up and say "i have the 3-step formula to get you laid like tile and you're going to lose 100 lbs with this secret diet." Now everyone wants to buy it.
Advice that "sounds good" isn't actually what "is good".
The things that work are boring and simple. The information isn't hard. DOING it consistently is hard.
#5 - THE 50% REJECTION RULE
Back when he was teaching pickup, he created the 50% Rule ("If 50% of your attempts to pickup women aren't rejected, you're not being aggressive enough")
This applies to more than just pickup.
If you achieve 100% of your goals, you're not setting ambitious enough goals.
If you face 0% rejection, you're not putting yourself out there enough.
The body wants to avoid pain, but that's not actually what's good for you in the long run
#6 - YOUTUBE NEEDS CHARACTER
Old media (eg. Movies) had you trapped. Once you're in a theater, it takes a lot of effort to leave. So movies became masters of character development (long buildup, big payoff)
New media (eg. TikTok) knows you're 0.5 sec away from swiping to the next content. So the best youtubers/tiktokers became masters of retention.
Whoever can figure out how to do both retention and character is going to be huge (this is what Mark's trying to do with his new YT channel)
-- alright. this is a long ass tweet so ima stop. Full interview will drop on the My First Million podcast & youtube channel next week. go subscribe✌️
