Be nice if these announcments & stories would avoid language that pushes a negative narrative right away. Be far more responsible to objectively confirm only whats known... cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Same lack of consultation with residents and businesses. Same lack of focus on getting people into treatment now for the addictions that are destroying their lives. We do whatever is needed to prevent another disastrous site in the heart of downtown Vancouver. #vanpoli

@JohnnyUtahVan @CityofVancouver @VCHhealthcare I can share that through conversations with this same operator when what’s shown in the photo was happening - that there was a refusal to acknowledge/take responsibility for the street disorder & chaos outside. Essentially they said what happened outside was out of their control.

The previous OPS sites on Seymour and Howe became focal points for street disorder and open drug use. Rather than continuing to push failed approaches, we need the Province to get people off the streets and into the care they need. Vancouverites deserve better, everyone deserves better.

For 140 years, the Vancouver Police Department has proudly served and protected Vancouver’s citizens, business owners, and visitors. What began with a single officer serving a community of 500 residents has grown into a Department of over 1,900 dedicated sworn officers and civilian professionals serving a city of nearly 800,000 people. While technology, social issues, and crime trends have evolved over the decades, our commitment to public safety and service has remained constant. Today, we honour our history, reflect on how far we have come, and look ahead to the future of policing in Vancouver. Learn more about the VPD's history: bit.ly/3QTRMg5

What's the definition of insanity again. The part about doing the same thing over & over again but expecting a different result🤦🏻

Health Minister @Josie_Osborne reacts to Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim’s move to block a new overdose prevention site: “The concerns of neighbours, of businesses, of BIAs obviously need to be taken into account … but we will push forward, and we need to have these services in place.”

Today, ABC councillors + Mayor Ken Sim stood up for Downtown Vancouver residents and businesses against a reckless plan to reopen a failed overdose prevention site for the 3rd time just off Granville. People need recovery & treatment on demand. My comments 👇🏻 #vanpoli #bcpoli

Yesterday's shooting death at three o’clock in the afternoon on a busy street in Surrey shows these criminals do not fear being caught & they do not care about public safety. David Eby & the NDP must do more to stop the senseless violence. vancouversun.com/news/man-shot-…

@MikeKlassen Public safety comes first, full stop. Look at what’s happened in other countries when standards aren’t enforced properly. Calling it ‘politics’ misses the point…. compliance with the law is what keeps people safe.

There’s been a lot said recently about arts venues and inspections—but some of it doesn’t reflect the full picture. Enforcement decisions are made independently by staff, based on safety and compliance—not politics. Earlier this year, I helped bring operators and staff together to get a conversation started, to build trust, and make compliance clearer and simpler for licensed venues. City staff are now meeting with venue operators, and more listening sessions are being scheduled to improve communication and clarity. Our @Vote4ABC team has consistently supported expanding arts event opportunities—and we’re committed to building a more vibrant, “Fun City.” That means working together, supporting operators, and making sure events are safe and successful. 1/2

@CityNewsVAN 11 years and counting. At this point it’s not oversight…. it’s complete dysfunction. Legislated timelines and accountability for the process are long overdue.

@VancouverSun It’s not a “bidding war.” Fewer young people want the job, the hours are brutal, and constant armchair quarterbacking of split-second decisions plus excessive oversight turn people off applying in the first place. Fix that, and staffing follows.

@elenoresturko Don’t think I entirely agree. Surrey’s staffing shortages were well documented long before the transition. Blaming police misses the mark. The real issue is a justice system that isn’t holding offenders accountable, and attacking proactive policing has only made things worse.

Before the police transition, Surrey had its own anti Gang Unit & CFSEU. Thanks to NDP mismanagement the SPS unit has been reassigned & we have reduced services right in the midst of a gang conflict. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/arti…

Gun violence has no place in B.C. — and we’re taking action. Yesterday, we advanced regulations to bring the Firearm Violence Prevention Act into force on October 1 — strengthening our ability to curb gun violence, disrupt organized crime, and keep communities safe. This first-of-its-kind legislation closes gaps in federal laws and gives law enforcement new tools to hold criminals accountable — including new offences for transporting illegal firearms in vehicles and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. We’re also strengthening rules around imitation and low-velocity firearms, including banning sales to youth and clearly prohibiting these items in places like schools, hospitals, and places of worship. These changes are about closing loopholes, disrupting criminal activity, and keeping people safe.
