The important questions that need to be answered are about institutional failure. Why did police & social workers fail to act on complaints from victims & families? Are they still in positions of authority? What measures need to be in place to prevent repetition?

@WPCThinkTank @UKLabour Representative democracy is the root cause because leaders and politicians and public officials are not accountable. In direct democracy, failure would not be tolerated. Do the bidding of the majority of the people - or else.

@The_Inquisitor If it makes sense. Clearly, selling off commercial buildings under value and then having to rent them back for several decades at a yearly rate above the total sale price isn't good.

Fun fact - In 2001, the UK Government sold 600 of its HMRC buildings to a Bermuda corporation (Mapeley Steps Ltd) for £220M. HMRC now rents its buildings for about £269M per year. This example and many others like it should tell you that governments do not think long term, they are not strategic, they are either corrupt or incompetent and therefore are not the best place to pool our money to get important things done.
