The more profound truths often hide in the shadows, protected by those who benefit from the confusion. Yes, Deion, you call timeout on 3rd and 1 because you are going to settle your troops and call 2 plays so as soon as they reset the ball after 1st down (which starts the clock again), you can't go right into your next play, even if it is a spike. You also go over getting the first down, by telling your team if you can get out of bounds, fine, if not, go down immediately. Shedeur's not there to work miracles anymore. You have to be methodical.
