This study provides a strong preclinical rationale to evaluate nasal anti-CD3 mAb therapy in clinical trials. So grateful to the amazing collaborators on this work 🙏🏼

We pushed the system harder and asked whether anti-CD3 mAb treatment could be administered much later, at 4 weeks post-infection. This treatment was remarkably effective in reducing CNS inflammation and was accompanied by an increase in Tregs in the brain.

First, we tested whether anti-CD3 mAb administered nasally starting at 1 week post-infection for 4 weeks. The treatment restored microglial and astrocyte densities and reduced inflammatory cytokines.

Neuroinflammatory damage is a hallmark of Long COVID. Nasal delivery of anti-CD3 mAb induces Treg and has shown therapeutic benefit in various autoimmune and CNS models of disease. In this study, we asked whether anti-CD3 mAb can reduce damage and restore neurogenesis.

In The Hospital In January this year I spent 3 weeks in the hospital for a serious infection and related conditions. My experience there was at once a surprise and a discouraging setback that added to my symptom burden. In this post I relate my experience and thoughts on what it means for all of us. Read the whole piece on my blog or watch the video above. 💙 whitneydafoe.com/mecfs/?post=in… #mecfs #chronicillness #pwME #LongCovid

We’re proud to have Dr. Steve Deeks, who has garnered decades of experience researching HIV diagnostics & treatments, leading PolyBio’s VIPER diagnostics program for Long Covid. Said Dr. Deeks, “Having witnessed how a single test can transform a complex disease like HIV, I am fully committed to doing my part to develop tests for Long COVID. Validated diagnostics will allow us to run smarter, more targeted trials - and ultimately deliver effective treatments to patients faster.”

Dr. Amy Proal on the Tick Bootcamp podcast last week: “If you’re a pathogen and you’re going to infect someone, and persist in their body, the blood is not a smart place to be... A lot of pathogens over time will hide in a person’s tissue… Where they’re somewhat able to evade immune recognition.”

A study has found the menopause is linked to changes in the brain similar to those seen in Alzheimer's. Researchers found a significant loss of grey matter in post-menopausal women that could help explain why there are almost twice as many cases of dementia in women as in men.

ME/CFS immune cell lines show unusual fat buildup. One specific membrane fat, PC(O-38:4), is much lower and almost separates ME/CFS from controls. Many triglycerides, diglycerides, and fatty acids are higher. A lipid enzyme PTDSS1 is higher too. Paper by @DanMissailidis & Co

1) With both symptoms and genetic evidence pointing to the brain, should the ME/CFS community do a coordinated push for brain banks and autopsy studies? The ongoing post-mortem studies in the Netherlands and the UK will give us a glimpse of how feasible and useful this is.
