Some of my takeaways from Chair Powell’s press conference

On CPI, I want to say pay attn to the core number bc that's still relevant at this point & is looking ok. It's headline inflation that'll be marred and hurt consumer spending if anything in the short term. For the Fed it means they stay cautious

Fed's Vice Chair Bowman just said that it's important that liquidity regulations support a smaller balance sheet esp w the new Fed Chair coming in - this is something Fed Chair nominee Kevin Warsh has called for. Ofc, reg changes needed to be made to do that

KC Fed pres Schmid warns China will need to rely on robots to literally physically do what they're not going to have people to do bc their pop will be cut in half in the next 50 years. "Otherwise their economy is going to be cut in half bc your economy is driven by workforce"

KC Fed's Jeff Schmid says he’ll “miss Jay Powell”- called him “principled, smart and committed American.” “we've been v blessed to have him at the helm for his tenure...we could all write books on the definition of a soft landing. We're not to 2%, but it's a nice glide path.”

President Trump’s energy agenda has resulted in oil and gas production reaching the highest levels ever recorded. To enable oil to keep flowing into the global market, the Treasury Department is issuing a temporary 30-day waiver to allow Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil. This deliberately short-term measure will not provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government as it only authorizes transactions involving oil already stranded at sea. India is an essential partner of the United States, and we fully anticipate that New Delhi will ramp up purchases of U.S. oil. This stop-gap measure will alleviate pressure caused by Iran’s attempt to take global energy hostage.

Fed Vice Chair of Supervision Michelle Bowman just noted that the KC Fed's approval of a skinny master account for Kraken is for one year only, calling it "a pilot. It’s not opening the flood gates. It’s an experiment."

NY Fed's Williams told reporters recent developments with Blue Owl are “primarily adjustments to that sector, not a fundamental threat to underlying private credit...I don't see this as a huge issue for financial stability right now, but definitely something we want to monitor."

NY Fed Pres Williams told reporters the war in Iran will impact the outlook for inflation in the near term & raises uncertainty for the economic outlook. "We'll have to see how persistent this is and how long this is," he said.

Breaking: Fed Vice Chair Bowman just said in Senate testimony she has arrived at a consensus on Basel 3 with other regulators and that she expects to roll out that proposal before the end of March
