In an era where best FCS players are targeted and poached via the portal, it's cool to see the pluck of early-season FCS upsets still alive. Tarleton stunned Army, which was a two-touchdown favorite. Austin Peay thumped Middle Tenn behind Miss State transfer QB Chris Parson.

I’ve said numerous times with portal additions and or some new coaches teams can literally do a 180 from the previous year. Exhibit 1A Florida State. I know it’s only one game but the physicality and interior line play is vastly different. You build teams and win games from the inside out.

@CoachDanCasey I think it is a lot easier to do it if you are 2 platoon. Also you need context so the defense can call accordingly. Otherwise I agree

Football Coaches should have less "Scripted" Periods and more "Live Call-It" Periods in practice.

@The_Ballmanac Much of it depends on who your kids are? Some years, when we had a good returning secondary we would be mostly installed by now. Breaking in new players, not so much

Early in my coaching career, I didn’t fully grasp how much my words mattered.
I was focused on teaching, instructing, and correcting. I wanted my players to be disciplined, to work hard, and to execute properly. But I quickly realized that how I spoke to my players was just as important as what I was trying to teach them.
I saw how a single phrase, spoken in frustration, could shake a player’s confidence. I also saw how one simple word of encouragement could bring a young man back to life.
