Incredibly, even *more* locations across U.S. are today experiencing their warmest March temperatures on record--many by a wide margin, with some even breaking April records. This includes most or all of: AZ, UT, CO, NM, WY, NE, KS, MO, IA, plus portions of many other states. 🫠

Nice bit of heat "relief" this weekend for #SoCal, but above normal temps will continue thru next week. Between April 1-5, models are indicating some threat of rain. However, ensembles indicate that any rain totals will remain under 0.50 inches. So, no big storms on the horizon.

Fair to say that the Western U.S. heatwave has reached record-shattering status, with dozens of locations breaking all-time March monthly heat records & some now approaching *April* records. Swath of record heat extends clear from Pacific to Great Plains, & from Canada to Mexico.

The difference between the advisories and warnings will just depend on the pressure gradients (which has been my challenge the last few shifts). Either way, it’s historic March heat. Be prepared this week.

Across California, invasive pests are putting stress on our forests and woodlands. A recent news report highlights the ongoing impact of the Goldspotted Oak Borer, an invasive beetle responsible for killing thousands of oak trees in Southern California. It’s still looking brutal for #SoCal this week. Glad to have a day off after trying to forecast this heat the last few days. The difference of a couple of degrees makes a difference between an advisory or warning and that impacts how cities deal with the heat.

Going to be hot in #SoCal Thu-Fri with some slight relief this weekend. However, the heat will return next week and may likely be more intense than the next couple of days. And sadly, no significant rain through at least March 26th. Fire season is fast approaching. #FireWx
