Beautiful- we are in this fight together
Bethany S. Mandel@bethanyshondark
I’m at a commemoration for the lives lost in the Holocaust at the US Capitol. It opened with a moving presentation of all of the flags of the infantries that liberated death camps. I am struck by gratitude. So thankful to be an American Jew.

@NYCMayor 17 days after the Oct 7 Massacre, while Israel was still sifting through ashes to identify the 1200+ Jews who were raped, kidnapped & murdered, Zohran Mamdani led a pro-Hamas rally calling for the destruction of Israel.

@thehoffather @NYCMayor Won’t ever forget. His true colors have always been on display for anyone who has the guts to see them. A disgrace.

On Yom HaShoah, we pause to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Nazis' systematic program of mass murder, along with the millions of others murdered by the Hitler regime.
We remember the scale of this horror, and the systems of hatred and dehumanization that made it possible — and that still echo in our world today.
In New York City, home to more Holocaust survivors than anywhere else in this country, that memory lives among us and shapes who we are. The resilience of survivors is woven into the very fabric of this city, and it calls on all of us to act with courage and clarity in the face of injustice.
Today, as antisemitism rises once more, we are reminded that remembrance alone is not enough. We must confront hate wherever it appears.
As we light the yahrzeit candle, let us come together to protect its fragile flame — and shield it from the cold winds of hate and cruelty.
"Never again" is a promise. And it is one we must fight to keep.

🚨 JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon just dropped an UNEXPECTED take on Iran.
“It’s much more important that this be successfully completed, than what the market does.”
Dimon says the markets are unpredictable right now, but regardless, EVERYONE should be hoping for Trump to succeed in Iran.
DIMON: “I think the market...you know, markets are unpredictable and it’s hard for me to tell you exactly what.”
“But I think they’re just looking at is there a chance something can go wrong?”
“Now we should all hope nothing goes wrong. We should all hope that these bad people are...you know, that we win this thing and clean up straits and that Iran is no longer a threat to anybody.”
“The markets will be concerned until it is over.”
“But I think it’s VERY important...it’s much MORE important that this be successfully completed than what the market does.”
Wall Street’s most powerful CEO just said winning in Iran is more important than the what stock market does in the short term.

Today, the Council passed my legislation to protect safe access to houses of worship while fully upholding the sacrosanct rights to free speech and protest. This bill requires the NYPD to publish their plans, strengthens transparency and accountability, and ensures communities are part of the process.
We also advanced a broader package to improve safety at schools and houses of worship, combat harassment, educate students on online hate, and expand support for student loan borrowers.
Thank you to my Council colleagues for prioritizing this important work.

@USATODAY @BringHershHome An absolutely extraordinary person and so deserving of this honor. Meeting Rachel in Jerusalem and hearing her speak was indescribably haunting and hopeful. She touched my soul. May Hersh’s memory forever be a blessing.

Rachel Goldberg-Polin (@BringHershHome) is the embodiment of every mother’s worst nightmare: losing a child. Now, she is turning her loss into a way to help others heal.
Hamas kidnapped and executed her son, Hersh. Her commitment to save as many of the 251 hostages as possible never wavered. bit.ly/4lsFXIS

Extraordinary admissions from the ex-CEO of Oxfam GB, Helima Begum. She tells @Channel4News that Oxfam:
-Had a disproportionate focus on Gaza compared to other world crises;
-Were pushing to use the term 'genocide' re: Gaza without checks
-Struggled to be impartial & neutral
Many had suspected this of course, but it's shocking to hear it said out loud.

Today, we are designating the Lebanese, Egyptian, and Jordanian chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist groups. Under President Trump's leadership, the United States will eliminate the capabilities and operations of Muslim Brotherhood chapters that threaten U.S. citizens and our national security. state.gov/releases/offic…

The protests in Iran cannot be separated from the long-standing, state-imposed restrictions on girls’ and women’s autonomy, in all aspects of public life including education. Iranian girls, like girls everywhere, demand a life with dignity.
The people of Iran have long warned about this repression, at great personal risk, and their voices have been silenced for decades. These restrictions exist within a wider system of gendered control shaped by segregation, surveillance, and punishment — one that limits freedom, choice, and safety far beyond the classroom.
They demand their voices be heard and the right to determine their political future. That future must be driven by the Iranian people, and include the leadership of Iranian women and girls — not external forces or oppressive regimes.
I stand with the people and girls of Iran in their call for freedom and dignity. They deserve to determine their own future.
