@Nick5p1a @TheHerd @colincowherd When did I say that officials should call fouls to “help” a team? The Pistins simply committed more fouls last night. Result: more free throws for the Cavaliers.

"Donovan Mitchell: bucket getter. James Harden: bucket getter. Detroit doesn't have any. Well, they've got one. That's really the difference." @colincowherd explains why the Pistons need to help Cade Cunningham after blowing game 5 to the Cavs

Two things that will absolutely happen if there is a 24-team CFP. * Players will demand to be paid more to play an extra round of games. * Agents of some top picks will recommend they opt out rather than take on the extra injury risk. Even NFL players don’t play 5 rounds.

@CashSpicer @JarheadFrog @JoshPateCFB @On3 So beating your rival is no longer enough? It’s only enough if beating them wrecks their season? I don’t understand the obsession with wanting every loss by a rival to be existential.

The 24 team playoff would take meaning away from the regular season for 3% of the college football teams. While adding meaning to the regular season for 97% of teams. Josh Pate, Ari Wasserman, the SEC, & On3 don't care about college football. They care about the top 3%.

@TuscaloosaSEC 2/ a month. In many ways, the teams having the shorter layoff are at an advantage because they get into game shape quicker, while teams resting for 4-5 weeks in between games are more prone to bad starts when they play. That’s been the case so far in the 12 team CFP.

@TuscaloosaSEC 1/ I would argue that there was essentially equal rest back then for the 2 teams playing in any given bowl game or the national championship game. Now, the rest gaps are vastly different as some teams only get a 2 week break until their first CFP game while some still wait almost

This is either dishonest, or you’re out of touch. For 20 years, there was a month to recover after the SEC grind prior to the National Championship. Now we go straight from the grind to an expanded playoff, with minimal time in between. The SEC grind IS the reason the Big 10 has won 3 in a row. The SEC grind WAS what prepared teams to win a national championship. Both are true & not mutually exclusive.
Ari Wasserman@AriWasserman

For 20 years, it was "the SEC grind prepares the teams to win national titles." Now it is "the SEC grind is the reason the Big Ten has won three in a row." Which one was a lie?

@realjdbreen @eSECpn @JoshPateCFB I’m genuinely curious - with this type of thinking, is it almost more important to some fans to see their rivals lose/fall short of a goal than to see their own team win?

@XylinRoomLXXIV @MatthewCappucci I don’t disagree, but I think for a lot of people it’s become a binary matter when a tornado warning is issued: either a tornado happens in a warned area (warning verified) or it doesn’t (warning was a false alarm).

@JoeEgan8 @MatthewCappucci 100% is a lack of communication and education from local weather authorities to their viewers. But there's a large gap between saying radar indicated warnings are often false alarms vs. we wouldn't want an uninformed public to be inconvenienced by an urgent alert.

Concerning that tornado warnings aren't, holistically, getting better – in fact, there are more missed events these days. Is it the retirement of experience? Radar tunnel vision and a lesser emphasis on antecedent environment/mesoanalysis? More CYA warnings?
Andrew Markowitz@amarkowitzWX

Learned about this last month at the Mississippi State Severe Storms Symposium and was pretty shocked. Crazy that the false alarm rate for tornadoes is around 75% and has not improved much with technology! Curious how we fix this without sacrificing POD. Better safe than sorry?

@XylinRoomLXXIV @MatthewCappucci 4/ Many people, fairly or not, think they can reasonably expect tornado warnings to only be issued when there is firm confidence that a tornado will occur in the warned area. I think education is needed to help people understand this intent better.

@XylinRoomLXXIV @MatthewCappucci 1/ I think the contentious issue though is: the intent of “radar indicated” tornado warnings isn’t clearly understood by a large segment of the population - even us meteorologists don’t always agree on it. Many people believe any tornado warning means they should expect a tornado

@XylinRoomLXXIV @MatthewCappucci 3/ routines disrupted by an urgent warning unless there’s very high confidence that a urgent threat exists. Thus, they do see a lack of a confirmed tornado in a tornado warning polygon, as a false alarm. Not saying that’s a healthy way to think, but it’s a reality that’s present.

@XylinRoomLXXIV @MatthewCappucci 2/ somewhere in the warned area almost 100% of the time. Obviously that’s an unreasonable expectation based on the state of science, but there’s a big disconnect for some people and I feel like it comes down to communication. Also, I think a lot of people simply don’t want their

@VinceWaelti @NWSSPC Ultimately it is forecaster discretion I believe, but I think that forecaster discretion ALSO informs the probabilities used in the watch.

Is the PDS declaration on a watch forecaster discretion or is it based on probabilities? Asking so I can better develop something to explain the difference to the audience. @NWSSPC

@nwsfollower_mn @ChasingWConnor @ben_williams_wx 1/ I think the answer depends on the audience. People outside the weather enterprise generally aren’t willing to sacrifice time they could have had productively spent at work/school or at a planned event, to protect from a weather threat that appears to have not materialized.

@WxMaccaUK @NWSNorman I don't disagree, but there's a process the NWS has to follow to be scientifically consistent and precise. Have to let the structural experts confirm.
