@eldmcca @dublin_damo How does that follow? I’m lifelong left, not practicing Catholic, prob disagree with her on much BUT she was clearly the only non-establishment candidate & would have brought the debate to life. Conflating “establishment” & being a “woman of the people” is mendacious.

Mocking a woman for owning an expensive handbag seems odd to me. Whilst I don't have that kind of budget, I always buy the absolute best of everything I can afford - same approach, same mindset, just different budgets.

If it's ok to constantly describe Maria Steen as "conservative", then shouldn't Catherine Connolly be described every time as "far-left"?

@normaburke @DavQuinn Christianity has been hijacked by nutcases....just look at the White House, stone cold lunatics who have comodified religion and take great pride in their accumulation of massive Wealth,on the backs of vulnerable people....imagine selling Supernatural blessings for $1000 a pop?

There is a loss of meaning in the lives of many people. This is connected to the decline in religion, which is connected to the decline of marriage and in turn to sub-replacement birth rates. Sooner or later, this will dawn on liberals.

@DavQuinn David, we don't need God, we just need bloody houses. Tech oligarchs being able to do massive social experiments with no consequence is the other big issue. Plenty of religion in America, but look how unhinged they all are.

@Justinhead1982 @timcairns This is it. The English were generally horrified when they learned who the DUP were when they supported the Tories. Tim maybe would have us believe that Ian Paisley was all about peace and love and Drumcree was just a squabble and didn't involve children being murdered..

Residents in the South are wary of both Unionists and Republicans in the North with a history of sectarianism or violence sure - but overall there is a desire to maintain the Unionist population in a United Ireland. There is advantages for the Republic that come with having a Unionist community such as maintaining hassle free travel to the UK and moderate Republicans won't want to lose those advantages, no more than Unionists would.

It’s interesting how touchy they are about this! The new Ireland mask well and truly slipped over how Heather Humphreys was treated by some in the Irish media. We can see it! Despite what they say, unionists will have no place in an all Ireland.

@timcairns Where's your place in the UK? You'd be doing well if they realised you existed, never mind get them to care other than using unionism as a useful patsy when needed. And again, where's the self awareness of how hostile unionism is to any Irishness? You can't veto both sides...

@JoelKeysNI Utter nonsense. The man was spouting bile and lies constantly. He wasn't trying to find common ground or bridge the divide. He was actively seeking to polarise and divide. You're seeking empathy, the same man was lambasting EMPATHY.

Some of y'all over 30s have really demonstrated how out of touch and hate filled you are over the past day or two. Charlie Kirk was one of the most popular voices for young people period. Yes, even in the UK. I know *maybe* hundreds of young people, they all know who Kirk is.

@BeattieDoug The far right kills multiples more in the states than any other group in the states, so absolutely not true. We don't even know the bloody motive. It was the right wing that tried to assassinate Trump. But don't let your feelings get in the way of the facts.

@KellyMatshall @squinteratn The man was raging against EMPATHY. You say he wasn't violent, but he wanted the man who attacked the Pelosis to be released. He said putting gay people to death was 'God's perfect law'. You tote his bible adherence, but he wasn't one for loving his neighbour...

1/2 I am sorry Charlie Kirk is dead. I feel for his young family. But it’s as if the cosmos is trying to tell us something in the manner of his death. A fascist demagogue who said gun deaths were acceptable to protect gun rights. A hater of Muslims, gays, women and Trans people.

This, in my view, is an appalling thing to say Sarah given the fact that Charlie was murdered, just last night, in front of his wife & young children. Ironically he fully supported your right to say it and that will be part of his amazing & enduring legacy. #CharlieKirk
Sarah Creighton 🍂@Saraita101

Nobody deserves to be killed for their views and it's beyond horrific that Kirk's wife and children saw that.Let's be clear tho: he was a racist who spouted bile and supported violence against his enemies. He would not have shown grace if this had happened to his opponents.

@Jas782022 @Saraita101 @petermartindup So lionise him then? It's impossible to ignore the fact that he has been spouting violent and divisive rhetoric and lies for years. This is the result of the environment he has helped create. Neither is the cynical attempts to politicise the death when no motives are known.

@Saraita101 @petermartindup But these people aren’t condemning his death, they’re going it’s bad he’s killed but he had bad views so it’s not that bad! Your rationalising murder by doing that Sarah! Those who say but after condemning are doing that and therefore sending a message of it’s okay to kill

@mccleangreen @Choyaa13 @Saraita101 @petermartindup @grok All for the big lie too and was recently decrying empathy. I don't believe we should be shooting people, but I don't think we should portray him as some sort of martyr. @Choyaa13 @Saraita101 @petermartindup @grok The below statements from Mr Kirk can't be debunked however. I'm a pacifist as my bio states. I recognise extremism when I see it too. Mr Kirk, like many other Americans, had an extremist political ideology. He didn't deserve to be shot though.

@BeattieDoug @pmosligo You don't seem content in being responsible for the taking of human lives in your 'service', you are now seeking to target those who are most vulnerable in our society. Imagine if one of your children or grandchildren were trans and you read these sorts of comments?

@BeattieDoug @pmosligo I thought maybe you were decent Doug, but this is despicable. Trans people are the most marginalised group in society. Someone who seeks to stand up and treat them with dignity, you pull this shite trying to claim there is something insidious about that.

Alliance simply cannot dodge this issue. People deserve to know. I believe in women & girls only spaces & protecting women & girls category in sport. This is not a controversial viewpoint.

@cahillbooks @KitMurray It's a much bigger liability for Humphreys given she has said she would learn if she won, but she didn't bother when she was minister for the Gaeltacht for 4 years. But don't think MON will run either. Would be a big gamble.

To end the speculation now, Sinn Féin won't run Michelle O'Neill for the Áras for the simple reason that she would be intellectually mauled in any constitutional debate. She also has no Irish. The fact that she won't rule herself out means they're playing the public for fools.

@BeattieDoug @NIOgov Have you learned nothing from Irish history? How exactly have things worked out when the British have tried to 'solve' things on their own on this island. The 1960s and 1970s especially. 'Internal affairs' you might say, but rubber bullets have never been used on anyone in GB..

@Saraita101 It's paranoia, they are afraid of the debate, so just filing everyone in to themmuns and ussuns is the reflex. Apparently positivity is constantly moaning about themmuns, crying that you don't get enough attention. Insight, self-reflection or thoughtfulness is a big no-no!

When I started doing commentary, entirely by accident, I honestly didn't expect unionists online to complain that I don't hold their hand and say constantly nice things to make them feel better. Also nothing wrong with sympathy for your neighbour.
