I just celebrated my third Pascha as a baptized Orthodox Christian, and I’ve been on this corner of the app for longer than that. Reason stated is that they are "windows into heaven necessary to be able to visually and fully grasp the fullness of the heavenly and the incarnation, which is why we NEED icons"...so that that you have something you can, worship, I mean focus on and venerate. Things like angels, saints and such...and if you don't worship idols, I mean venerate icons, then you are anathema and cut off from salvation. The church, Body of Christ, Israel, the Bride of Christ is those in covenant with Him through faith in Jesus. I've wanted to have this kind of conversation for a long time. @WesleyLHuff is a New Testament historian who studies ancient manuscripts, and he is exactly the kind of thinker I wish I had found before I became a Christian. The logical part of my brain needed someone who could walk through the evidence without assuming you already believe it. What is the evidence for the resurrection? What was speaking in tongues? Which translation is the most accurate? And more!
