We are increasingly relying on wind for courses to defend par, which doesn't feel a sound future strategy A 7,700 yard golf course famed for it's difficulty & length has produced some alarming scores. Any defense that the game is still in scale feels increasingly disingenuous!

Something that can prescribe practice ideas to specifically address errors. Like many already said, I use arccos, but for me it says my approach play is where I lose the most strokes. Yet I am unsure if it is due to actually driving it into trees and having to punch out a lot, if it is face/contact issues, etc. want to be able to better parse through that and find practice drills to work on those areas where I lose strokes.

If you could have a #golf app made for you, what would you want it to be/do?

Modern golf is what happens when years and years of optimization occurs. Everyone hits driver long now. It’s a requirement at the highest level of golf. Rolling the golf ball back still means the long hitters hit it long, and they’ll still have the advantage. Hutch knows ball.

@hutch_golf @KylePorterNS In the past, short hitters like Pavin were still competitive. We don’t see this kind of variety any more. It’s mainly a slog & wedge contest. You’re basically saying longer hitters will still have an advantage whether a long drive 320 or 280, so what’s the problem?

Fred Ridley was great this morning, but specifically on the importance of rollback. It was probably the most adamant he was throughout his entire presser. His full quotes here are worth reading (and especially the highlighted part).

Do you want to hit straighter golf shots? Knowing whether to fix path or face can be difficult - especially without a launch monitor. However, I've developed a super simple flow-diagram that helps you determine the best course of action. It will help you get to a more neutral path and face combination WITHOUT the need for an expensive launch monitor. Just using an iron and ball flight alone. 🔥Reply with "A3" and I'll send you the 1 min video explainer.

@Back9_Bob @LouStagner Typically 6 hour rounds in 8 somes, I play in several each summer. The price of fairness. If playing fair is not important to you, play in 4somes. If it is, you have to play 8somes or give each group a volunteer scorer.

@LouStagner Most scrambles are already 5 hours long. Trying to go for 7?

To reduce cheating, every scramble should have two teams per group. 4-person scramble? You play as an eight-some. Please sign my petition below.

I play in a few big money scrambles and we play 8 somes with a scorer. The scorer is responsible for reporting scores for each team. Difficult to find people to score? Potentially, but it is the price of fairness. When there are several thousands of dollars on the line it is needed.

@LilBill811 @MidwestGolfJake I agree that it is easier to make a good stroke on a shorter one, but golf ball physics is the primary reason you make more putts. Capture size of the hole is larger—meaning the hole is functionally bigger. Stroke size is a smaller piece of that.

Can’t help but feel as though the “roll the golf ball back” crowd is the “get off my lawn” crew of Twitter. Tell me you’re no fun to be around without telling me. Probably get mad about people wearing polos with designs on them too. The game is already hard enough let’s not make it harder.

@MidwestGolfJake My biggest gripe is lack of adjustment for weather. I play in 20+ mph wind most of the time. The rare day it isn’t blowing I shoot 3-4 shots better easily, yet I have never gotten the PCC adjustment to one of my rounds. Ever.

I genuinely want people's thoughts on the handicap system. As I've shared on here, I have been struggling. I have been soft capped most of the year. My current index is 6.2. Here's the kicker, my lowest differential in my last 20 is 6.4. If I weren't soft-capped I'd be a 7.0 right now. I don't play many net events, and frankly I'm a little embarrassed my handicap is high, given that I've lived sub 5 for years. So the soft cap is helping my ego. But a system where your index can be lower than your lowest counting score seems like it could be improved upon.

@BennyDTD @LouStagner Sounds like you just want a smaller driver and the golf ball doesn’t matter. Fine then go that route, but rolling the ball back makes golf harder for everyone, and your local hacks don’t need golf to be harder.

@JohnPohlsonGolf @LouStagner The shorter hitters are being weeded out now, and it’ll only get worse going forward if everything is about speed. Put a premium on ball striking, not just whaling away at driver without fear of missing the face that is the size of a dinner plate.

@BennyDTD @LouStagner The shorter hitters will be weeded out of golf entirely. Thanks for trying but you hit driver 260, you’re gone! Longer hitters will be the only ones that make the tour. Simply penalize players for hitting it that far with more penal rough, trees, hazards.

@JohnPohlsonGolf @LouStagner The short hitters are short now? Just as they were 40 years ago and 100 years ago. It doesn’t cause any problems, at all. Make the driver head smaller so it puts a premium on strike, not speed. If you want to go at it at 130mph then make sure you find the centre.

@BennyDTD @LouStagner It’ll make the shorter hitters shorter and put more of a premium on club head speed than there already is. Causes more problems than it solves. Also, ever hit a callaway supersoft off the tee? Feels like a marshmallow. Have fun.
