Lebanese medics are adopting strategies as they know they are targets: — Not seeing family or friends so that if they are bombed, they don’t take their loved ones with them — Reducing team sizes — Sleeping in ambulances far away from each other so a single strike doesn’t kill them all

Israel deliberately targeting medical facilities in south Lebanon, say health workers. Medics and officials say there is systematic use of double-tap strikes in campaign to make the south uninhabitable. theguardian.com/world/2026/mar…?

I don’t get it. If Hezbollah had flats in this block (unlikely in central Beirut but not impossible) why did the Israelis give everyone inside an hour to get out — including those they wanted to kill? And if there weren’t any Hezbollah people there, why destroy a building with dozens of civilians in it?
The Associated Press@AP

An Israeli airstrike struck an apartment building in central Beirut, on Wednesday. The Israeli army had warned residents to evacuate about an hour before completely flattening it as day broke.

‘Israel is responsible for two in three journalist killings across the globe in 2024 and 2025’ - @pressfreedom has also collected testimonies from Palestinian journalists released from Israeli custody since Oct 7, 2023. All but one reported being subjected to torture, abuse, or other violence because of their work
Committee to Protect Journalists@pressfreedom

More journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 than in any other year since CPJ began collecting data more than three decades ago. At least 129 journalists and media workers were killed, two-thirds of them by Israel. Read CPJ’s #2025KilledReport: cpj.org/?p=553549

🔴 RIGHT NOW: dozens of settlers have torched buildings in four different locations across the village of Susya, Masafer Yatta. The army is nowhere in sight, the settlers are burning homes and cars. Insane reality that has become routine.

A new report from @pressfreedom finds that nearly all Palestinian journalists imprisoned by Israel were subject to abuse, sometimes including torture, rape and starvation. cpj.org/special-report… I'd just add that the Biden and Trump administrations were both complicit.

I am not a fan of Tucker Carlson. I disagree a lot with Carlson. But as an interviewer, Carlson actually, brilliantly, asks follow-up questions, and keeps going, in a way that pretty much no US TV interviewer has done with pro-Israel guests since Oct 7. And Huckabee falls apart.

Terribly sad about Tom Noonan passing. In casting Manhunter I auditioned about 10-15 actors in New York when Tom walked in the door and said, “I don’t want to talk. I just want to read.” He read and it was magical. We worked closely. I based Dollarhyde less on the novel’s character and more on a convicted killer whom I met and with whom I corresponded who was doing life in Vacaville. I took Tom into that world and he made it his own. It was an automatic to cast Tom in a wheelchair as Kelso in Heat. He did so much more fine work, but it was as the battered child become a killer adult - both alive in the same bottle - that projected the range and deep soul of this so acute and committed artist. Rest in peace, Tom.

Ahmad Tarmas was 62 years old & faced a choice no human should ever have to make -- die with his family or die alone. He chose alone. This is his story (translated), as recounted by @radwanmortada: “Yesterday in the town of Tallousa, 62-year-old Ahmad Tarmas was visiting family. He was sitting with his wife at her brother’s home when drones began circling overhead. Moments later, his phone rang. He answered. A cold voice on the other end asked, ‘Is this Ahmad Tarmas?’ ‘Yes,’ he replied. ‘This is the Israeli army. Do you want to die alone… or with everyone with you?’ Ahmad did not hesitate. ‘Alone.’ He hung up & calmly told the family what had happened. He told them to leave immediately. They initially refused but said that they would stay & die with him. He insisted. He convinced them to go. Then something occurred to him: He was not at his own home. He didn't want death to come to the house that was not HIS. He decided to take it away from them. He said goodbye. Got into his car. Drove away. Parked. Within seconds, two missiles hit. Within seconds, two missiles struck. The car burned. Ahmad was killed instantly. Two years earlier, he had buried his son Hassan. In recent months, he had told relatives he dreamt they would meet again in February. Prior to Ahmad, another man in the South received a similar call while driving with his wife. He stopped the car, asked her to get out, & then drove alone toward the strike. This is what life has become in southern Lebanon: phone calls that decide who lives & who dies. A choice imposed in moments. A father choosing to protect everyone else at the cost of his own life.” ⸻ And what will the Lebanese state say? Nothing. No guarantees. No protection. Just statements & silence. Some will remember Ahmad as a man who chose to save his family. Others will never hear his name. And worst of all, there will be fellow human beings in his country who will call this “humanity.” Who would claim Israel showed mercy because it warned him. Because it gave him a choice. Because it “only” killed him. Be careful: a phone call that gives someone the opportunity to die alone is not mercy. It’s cruelty with choreography. Israel did not spare his family out of compassion. It murdered Ahmad deliberately, knowingly, & in violation of every principle of international & humanitarian law. A warning does not sanitize an execution. Ahmad chose to save his family. That was humanity. The missile was not.

The Washington Post laid off its entire award-winning photo staff. Every photographer, fired. The WaPo photo staff has won 5 Pulitzers, including as recently as 2019. With a newsroom that still has 300 journalists, how do you produce a daily report with…no photographers? —>
