@LosTalksPats @MikeReiss Why does he need counseling? He said he was with friends on a group trip? Why would he need counseling after that?

BREAKING: #Patriots HC Mike Vrabel will not be with the team on Day 3 of the draft as he seeks counseling, per @MikeReiss. Vrabel will still be in contact with organization, but expressed his confidence in Eliot Wolf and Ryan Cowden to lead the draft room. He plans on spending the weekend outside of Massachusetts with his family. "As I said the other day, I promised my family, this organization and this team that I was going to give them the best version of me that I can possibly give them. In order to do so, I have committed to seeking counseling, starting this weekend. This is something that I have given a lot of thought to and is something I would advise a player to do if I was counseling them. I have always wanted to lead by example and I believe this is what I have to do to be the best husband, father and coach that I possibly can be. This is not an easy thing for me to admit, but it is one that I know will make me a better person. I appreciate the support that everyone has given me and promise a stronger resolve as a result.”

This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory. Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies. (Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)

So far, FIFA has: - Overcharged fans for tickets with sky-high prices driven by dynamic pricing; - Allegedly gave fans tickets in worse seats than what they paid for; and - Refused to help host cities and states with transit and security costs, causing NJ Transit to charge fans more than $100 for a train from NYC to MetLife that is normally $12.90 If FIFA can give Trump a made-up peace prize, they can make the World Cup successful and accessible. The festivities should be about the fans and the beautiful game—not FIFA's profits.

in 1982 Titanic survivor Ruth Becker was giving an interview where she stated the ship broke in two. The treasurer of the Titanic Historical Society actually took the microphone away from her and said she had been mistaken. 3 years later they found the wreck broken in 2

It seems increasingly clear - as I have been talking about for weeks - that there are at least two (or more) warring factions inside Iran vying for control of the country or parts of it. One side saying all clear, the other still threatening to blow up ships, as we saw this morning. We may be witnessing an internal fight for the future of Iran. It's unclear and difficult to get much real news from a closed regime, but let's hope for a positive outcome for the bulk of the Iranian people, who have had nothing to do with any of this and just want to live in peace and not in fear of their own government.

According to two Channel 16 audio recordings captured today, two Indian vessels were forced back west out of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran's Sepah (IRGC) Navy. Firing was involved. One of the vessels is an Indian-flagged VLCC supertanker carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil. Meanwhile, India is still importing Iranian oil. With friends like these..... #OOTT #Tankers #IranWar

@JamesSurowiecki The EC requires breadth of support and not just depth. Much in the same way sports leagues don't have the winner be the team with the most net points And it is a nod to the fact that the US is a collection of states giving select powers to a central government and not vice versa

The "actual argument"'against the Electoral College is quite straightforward: if you believe in the virtue of self-government, majority rule is preferable to minority rule - which is what the EC enables.

First Mikie Sherrill did not bid for the World Cup. Phil Murphy (D) previous governor agreed to this. Now, why does tax payers in NJ have to pay for free trasnportation so that FIFA can make $64 BILLION in profit while many NJ residents dont get the same with other venues?
Gary Al-Smith@garyalsmith

So, if New Jersey had a problem with this, why did you bid to be a host city in the first place? Because every World Cup host city knows this requirement years before you deprived other cities in the country the chance. Your appeal to pity is vacuous.

@c_omargt Does she know that she publicly endorsed him in 2021 . This is 3 years after the US world cup was annoinced. In essence, she to others to vote for him because she thinks he is the best one for the job. Guess she wasn't fully honest, no?

All of these other cities are benefiting from a tax windfall from the matches. New Jersey is literally just hosting the games but solely responsible for transit, logistics, and security. NYC is getting all the economic stimulus. Sherrill has the right to be pissed at Murphy.

Three more things Peter Lougheed said about using the notwithstanding clause: 1⃣ "A simple majority does not appear adequate." 2⃣ "In my mind, [pre-empting judicial review] is undemocratic." 3⃣ “I would hope that the notwithstanding clause would be used very, very rarely.” Unfortunately, the Alberta government invoked the notwithstanding clause four times in the last year, each time pre-emptively, and each time with a simple majority, rather than the higher 60% threshold Lougheed preferred. Nobody is suggesting removing the notwithstanding clause. There are complicated constitutional issues at play but it is inaccurate and misleading to imply Peter Lougheed would support its use in a way he explicitly said he opposed. The courts are the appropriate place for these arguments.
Danielle Smith@ABDanielleSmith

The Notwithstanding Clause is integral to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and an unassailable provincial constitutional right. Alberta Premier Peter Lougheed insisted it be included to protect the autonomy of provinces to uphold the values and priorities of the people they represent from decisions of activist courts. In Alberta, we have used it carefully and lawfully to stand up for the parental right to be involved in their children’s lives, to protect children so they can make important health decisions as adults, to ensure fairness in sport, and to keep students learning in the classroom. We are extremely disappointed that Minister Sean Fraser would risk national unity and a foundational principle of our constitution by attempting to attack the use of the notwithstanding clause by sovereign provincial governments.

New Jersey is ready and excited to host eight FIFA World Cup matches this summer – including the World Cup Final. Since I took office, my Administration has been working to prepare for the biggest sporting event our state has ever seen – and today, NJ TRANSIT released their Mobility Plan to move 40,000 fans to and from each match safely and efficiently. In the FIFA World Cup agreement that my Administration inherited, FIFA put zero dollars towards transporting World Cup fans. It also eliminated parking at MetLife Stadium, putting the burden of transporting four times more matchday riders than typical for an event at the stadium on NJ TRANSIT. This agreement will cost NJ TRANSIT at least $48 million, while FIFA is positioned to make $11 billion during the World Cup. As I have said repeatedly, FIFA should cover the cost of transporting its fans. If it won’t, we will not be subsidizing World Cup ticket holders on the backs of New Jerseyans who rely on NJ TRANSIT every day.
