@XolsTYQ @TimPlewman You realise that successful businesses get to be so, ONLY because they give better value for money and treat their clients respectfully? In a free market, it is the CUSTOMERS who decide which businesses do this best. Black customers don't like black businesses for good reason.

@TimPlewman Do you realise that most successful businesses in SA are because of black clients. What will happen to white owned companies if we decide to only use black lawyers, black doctors, etc? Saying black people should start their own = black client only use black businesses. Backwards

We received a preliminary briefing from SAPS today as the Portfolio Committee begins shaping the Terms of Reference for the Gang Violence Inquiry. The reality is this: Gang violence in South Africa, particularly in the Western Cape, is not new. It is entrenched, evolving, and in many areas, escalating. Independent analysis shows a sustained upward trend over several years, with gang structures becoming more fragmented, more volatile, and more deeply embedded in communities and even state systems. So the key question is not whether we need an inquiry. The question is whether this inquiry will confront the real failures in the system. ⸻ What came through in today’s briefing? SAPS continues to emphasise: • high-visibility policing • arrests and operations • reactive deployments Those interventions have a place. But they are not enough. Even SAPS’ own planning documents show a system still heavily focused on outputs like arrests, rather than outcomes like dismantling organised crime networks or securing convictions. And that is the core problem. ⸻ Gang violence is not just a policing problem. It is a system failure. The policy framework in South Africa is clear: • Crime must be addressed through intelligence-led policing • Investigations must be prosecution-driven • Prevention must be coordinated across government But implementation is falling short. Instead: • Intelligence remains unstable and underperforming • Detection rates for serious crimes remain low • Coordination across departments is weak • Communities remain exposed ⸻ The human cost is being ignored in the system design. Gang violence: • fuels murder and attempted murder • drives extortion economies • normalises illegal firearms • destroys community stability And critically, it erodes trust in the state. Without trust, policing collapses. ⸻ So what must this inquiry focus on? If this is to be credible, it cannot be superficial. It must interrogate: 1. Crime Intelligence failures Why is SAPS still unable to anticipate and disrupt gang activity? 2. Detection and prosecution gaps Why are so few gang-related murders successfully resulting in convictions? 3. Firearm proliferation How are illegal firearms continuing to circulate at scale? 4. Corruption and collusion To what extent are gangs enabled by failures within the system? 5. Inter-agency breakdown Why is the whole-of-government approach not working in practice? ⸻ This inquiry must not become another report that gathers dust. Parliament’s mandate is clear: We are required to investigate, scrutinise, and hold the executive accountable for implementation failures, not just policy intent. That is the standard this process must meet. ⸻ The bottom line Communities living with gang violence do not need another process. They need: • effective investigations • real prosecutions • removal of illegal firearms • and a state that is actually in control This inquiry will only matter if it leads to measurable change. Otherwise, it is just another exercise while people continue to die. IC

Doxxed for dissent Approximately 1 year ago today, News24 doxxed an anonymous private citisen’s identity (Twatterbaas). They also revealed his business' name and location, his family's place of residence, the name of his wife, and even the names of his elderly parents and where they live. His crime? Being a vocal critic of the South African government, getting @elonmusk's attention while spreading awareness about farm murders and race laws, and embarrassing the Ramaphosa regime internationally using facts. The South African government was quick to respond (what a coincidence!), with the threat of investigations into regime critics for spreading "misinformation" (politically inconvenient facts). In the aftermath, News24's target and his family received countless death threats, traumatic levels of harassment, and their business suffered immense damage. For the safety of his family, he has not returned to X. The "exposé" backfired, with it being widely criticised and mocked on social media, in letters to newspapers, and by analysts and commentators. Many posted proof online of canceling their News24 subscriptions in protest. In conclusion: Never forget what lengths regime-friendly media will stoop to to silence those who dare speak out about farm murders and criticise the government's racist policies. (If you're reading this, I hope you and your loved ones are doing better, Twatterbaas.)

Helen, enough with this PC nonsense. These aren’t “child pregnancies,” like we’re delicately discussing the misadventures of a few naughty girls in Victorian England. It’s called statutory R A P E, and it’s a C R I M E. BTW, would you like to join my campaign to make the sex offenders register public?
Helen Zille@helenzille

This is a huge step forward. Investigate child pregnancies to find the men behind this crime. The only way to curb this evil is for men to know they will be held accountable. facebook.com/share/1H6sWWVd…

Has anyone ever worked for a large company which is actually ethical? Over years friends, family, and colleagues have had the most underhanded, dishonest, and treacherous experiences at such organizations. It appears to me that there is no such thing as an honest and sincere business beyond a certain level of size/income because of greed and megalomania. Furthermore the most despicable behaviour, especially at a senior management level, is usually rewarded. Am I too jaded?

@talkcentss @geordinhl @EarthOddysey The only life skills this lot needs are to be better parents, and not have babies they themselves cannot provide employment for. NOT the state responsibility to pick up the slack for parental ineptitude. Unfortunately, that is exactly what the DA is actively encouraging in CT.

Since you’ve acknowledged that gun violence is out of control and are rising in the ranks of leadership. It’s time to consider military enrollment for the unemployed youth. Teach them life skills and then deploy the army and sort out crime ridden areas and enforcing immigration policies.

No one is above the law! Bringing law and order to South Africa must be our top priority. Gun violence is out of control in SA, so any illegal firearms crime should be taken extremely seriously. While inequality levels remain high across much of the world, long run data shows that economic growth has coincided with a sharp reduction in extreme poverty. The implication is that focusing on inequality alone may obscure the real drivers of human welfare and economic progress.
