Love the folks on here bragging about not being impacted by chaser convergence lauding themselves as geniuses. I remember my first good storm chase in chaser traffic. You will be humbled.

@AZStormChase My opinion is that these storms were ingesting the modified outflow from the previous day’s MCS and the low level lapse rates were abysmally low. It wasn’t until the LLJ kicked in that the storms really got their acts together.

I am not sure how to put this into meteorological terms, but reviewing the timelapse of the Clay Center, KS storm, it seems evident that the storm was struggling big time. Lots of rotation overhead, but not really down beyond the cloud bases? #kswx

@mist8kfree Well the streamer bros and clout chasers didn’t really exist back then either. It’s different now.

We need a handful of abysmally dead chase seasons to weed out all the clout and content chasers. I miss the days when it was just the weather nerds out here.

@LandonWX10 @skydrama I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when we started having record hot years every year starting in like 2014 or whatever, the epic tornado events started disappearing

@skydrama Honestly beginning to wonder if climate change and the always in drought have made these setups so rare if impossible to achieve now. I remember when I first started chasing in 2010 it just seemed like it wasn’t so hard to get a good plains outbreak. Now like yesterday something

All I'm saying is they just don't make Great Plains tornado outbreaks like they used to. I chased this day (May 23rd, 2008) and this map of tornado tracks all occurring within a 4-6 hour period still seems made up to me.

@old_dwayne The last few years, the storm chasing community has seen a massive increase in numbers to the point where it legitimately is ruining the hobby because people who don’t know what they’re doing are driving unsafe, blocking roads, and causing accidents.

@225MPH_EF4 Either intercepting 6 tornadoes on 8/9/21 or getting the dream shot of a sunlit tornado with a rainbow on 5/23/25. I also consider riding the inflow notch of a monster HP supercell for 7 hours on 6/11/22 one of my most successful chases.

@AdamLucioWX @Get_EMLd Probably thanks to the modified outflow from Sunday’s MCS. I was very worried when I saw how progressive and widespread that MCS was.

@JonnyGlessner @Get_EMLd I did notice this on meso analysis early on, but it showed them nosing in, which often works. I didnt check up on it later in the day to see what actually went down though. It sure felt "stable" when I was standing out there most of the day.

@AdamLucioWX @Get_EMLd Also, for what it’s worth low level lapse rates were abysmally low. I noticed that when checking mesoanalysis in the morning. They probably peaked at only 6°. You can kinda see the stable layer below the wall cloud

@Get_EMLd Updraft seeding and limited low level Instability is what I’m blaming. Storms were cranking hard but something was off in the lowest km. The tors that did form had issues condensing

@AdamLucioWX I don’t want people to think I was being arrogant with my post. I’m just sick of all the “we have to regulate chasing” “the hobby is over” I think it’s a genuinely ridiculous reaction. Chasing is still chasing, we just have to change our strategy

I’m normally very good at avoiding convergence. Yesterday got me though. All it takes is holding for 1 minute too long watching that cranking wall cloud that’s about to produce or a random road closure/mud pit that sends you back tracking 3 miles and it’s game over. Don’t beat yourself up if this happened to you. Luck is still very much a factor no matter what your strategy is. The ones thumping their chests they didn’t get caught in it yesterday, got caught in it the day before. Others are sad they had a far, crap view of the Saint Libory tornado. You make the decisions you feel are best in those moments. Sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. What works one day doesn’t work the rest. But that’s one of the eccentric issues with chasing. You can go from feeling on top of the world to lower than dirt in less than 24hrs…but also the other way around!

@Meso1Gabe Are you a storm chaser or recognition chaser? Some of the best storm chasers out there are ones you have never heard of. Chase for the love of the storm. Don't chase for clout. I hope you have fun the next time yoy go out.

@AaronRigsbyOSC @cheeznado From what I’ve heard, the operational RRFS will run off the MPAS core. The current run ones on the FV3 core which we all know is complete ass lol I’m cautiously optimistic here
