When Nietzsche wrote, in The Genealogy of Morals, that the state descended on ancient man like a ravenous predator and subjected him tortures to mould and shape him into a citizen, this is exactly what he meant. In El Salvador, that very ancient process is at work today, breaking the most violent and reprehensible individuals in order to allow a civil society to emerge in which basic pleasures like walking down the street at night and engaging in commerce are possible.
Order can only be built on a foundation of terrible violence. We have forgotten this in the West, because that process is so distant from us, but we are fast heading towards a situation where brutal violence will again have to be deployed by the state to allow civil society to emerge once again.

I’ve lived in Colorado for 30 years (formerly an Illinoisan). The sky used to be blue. The sun shone. Just like when I was a kid. Now? The morning it starts out lovely and by afternoon the sky is whitish and there aren’t any shadows. It doesn’t look right and I cough a lot. in 2002 the US regime orchestrated a coup in Venezuela, and Chavez was kidnapped and taken away by helicopter to be executed by CIA-Mossad agents. But the Venezuelan masses came out onto the streets demanding their president, and quickly overthrew the fascist coup regime and forced Chavez' return. This was all captured in the brilliant documentary "The Revolution Will not be Televised".
