@CaliRN619 This Boomer has tried to make the same arguments to Millennials, with similarly indifferent results.

My Boomer Auntie, who is a very loving and kind hearted person is a Democrat that hates Trump and MAGA with a passion and attended a recent #NoKings rally. To her, loving people means letting illegals stay, increasing food stamps/welfare, giving tax dollars to poor countries, and taxing the “rich” to fund all programs. When I try to explain to her how her ideals actually hurt people, she dismisses it as right wing propaganda. No amount of evidence or reasoning will persuade her to consider any other viewpoint. I’m convinced there was some sort of brainwashing drug that was administered to Boomers and activated during COVID. Either that or there was something seriously wrong with their LSD supply.

In short, my in-laws are far too kind for this world, and I honestly don’t know how to show them our gratitude. Bonus: they bought the newspaper from the day my son was born, because they knew that’s what my father had done when I was born.

My in-laws came to take care of the kids (10 and 3 years old) for 5 days while we were at the hospital. They’re 71 and 79, and they live 50 km from us. We had cleaned the house, done the shopping, and prepared everything they needed (linens, etc). Normal. 1/

Congratulations. Although I had long recognized the popular misuse of the term “capitalism” and to a degree I therefore liked that episode because it said what I’d always thought, I hadn’t really reflected much upon your points about time translation and the benefits that equity can have over debt financing. And now that your win has reminded me I think I’ll listen to it again on my next hike.

Too bad solar isn’t a real power source.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@JessePeltan There is more than enough surface area in Japan to power the entire country with solar without infringing on farming or destroying forests

Two problems. First, to get that federal money we had to use it on things that are worth less than they cost; removing street lanes costs money, for instance, but it's detrimental, not beneficial. Second, even if we consider the local-tax component only, the @IndyGoBus expansion we've undergone to get those federal grants has caused the cost of providing an average bus ride to skyrocket.

When a system used by less than 2% of commuters commands funding comparable to a quarter of what we spend on the entire city, taxpayers are right to ask whether we’re getting our money’s worth.

33 years ago, Democratic Senator Harry Reid blasted the idea of granting automatic birthright citizenship to illegal aliens. “No sane country would do that.” 33 years later, Pres. Trump is taking the same position as the Supreme Court prepares to rule on his executive order.

@bethanyshondark At most have him take a semester of Latin derivatives. Trust me; never in the sixty years since I took Latin has knowing the finer points of supine-particle use been of any value.

They would like me to poll my followers about if they should be forced to take it. They would like you to know that Latin is a dead language, and that they’re already learning Hebrew and French and some Spanish and it’s too confusing.

@imzadi_hkr @ApoStructura No, I don't; I think for the most part people would without government intervention come voluntarily to the aid of those who through no fault of their own still fall through the cracks.

@ApoStructura Do you believe that we as a society are prepared to step over a child that is starving on the sidewalk because its mom spent her UBI on an iPhone?

The U.S. could literally do $20,000/y UBI today without raising taxes if there were no other forms of welfare. If you discarded every program except military/infrastructure/law enforcement/debt repayment, the U.S. federal government would have $20,000 left per adult to spend.
