Before Tom Cruise, there was Chic Burlingame. Captain Charles “Chic” Burlingame III was an honor graduate AND instructor at the real TOPGUN, the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School at NAS Miramar. He flew F-4 Phantoms. He served in the Gulf War. He built a 22-year career as a commercial airline captain. On September 11, 2001, the day before his 52nd birthday, his flight was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon. His bench stands at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. The real Maverick never came home. @NASFallon @USNavy

The Hall of Fame isn’t just stats. Sometimes it’s one swing. One night. A broken city that needed one reason to breathe again. @mikepiazza31 gave New York that moment on September 21, 2001. We don’t forget it.

Ten Days ago, the 2026 @MLB season kicked off. Today, we remember what happened ten days after September 11th, 2001, when the @Mets stepped back onto the field. Americans were still grieving but still standing. When @mikepiazza31's bat connected that night at Shea Stadium, an entire nation exhaled for the first time. This swing gave the Mets a 3-2 lead and provided a grieving nation with a much-needed sense of hope and unity. Thank you, @MLB, for recording and sharing historic moments like this so future generations can witness how sports can bring us all together.

More than 58,000 names are on The Wall. 184 names are on the benches of the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. Some answered the call in Vietnam. Some answered it again and were still showing up at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. We don’t separate the generations of sacrifice. We remember them together. @VVANational @VVMForg @AmericanLegion @VFWHQ

SPC Craig Amundson wasn’t just a soldier; he was a creator. Film Studies graduate. Small business owner. Graphic designer for the Army’s top personnel command at the Pentagon. Craig brought his creative talent into uniform. He built SockoDesign and then built something even bigger: a career that blended artistic skill with military purpose. He was 28 years old when he was killed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. His bench stands at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. We remember him and every veteran who carried their entrepreneurial spirit into service. @USChamber @VetsInTech @SBAgov

These photos capture the Medal of Honor Library at the @ArmyNavyCC, a truly meaningful tribute to the extraordinary members of the club who have received our nation’s highest military honor. I’m especially proud of the role the Army Navy Country Club Foundation played in bringing this space to life. As a former Foundation board member, I had the privilege of seeing firsthand the care and commitment that went into ensuring these stories of courage, sacrifice, and service are preserved and honored. It stands as a lasting reminder of the character and legacy of those who have gone above and beyond in service to our country.

Grateful for the incredible people at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and everything they do for Gold Star families. Being with them at the gala last week meant so much; however, it’s the small, thoughtful moments that stay with you. This cookie was such a simple gesture, but it says everything about who they are. TAPS shows up with compassion, with care, and with a deep commitment to honoring every family they serve. Thank you for all that you do!

Thank you for stating the facts. Too many people ignore the reality that al-Qaida carried out the 9/11 attacks, including the strike on the Pentagon by American Airlines Flight 77. Conspiracy theories don’t change that reality. Appreciate you correcting the record and standing up to misinformation.

@barstoolsports This is my old ROTC instructor from college. I’m convinced his popcorn habit started while watching my fellow cadets and me run lap after lap around that track. All jokes aside, those were the days that shaped us. And clearly, they shaped his snack preferences too. 🍿

Denton Police Officer Urbano Rodriguez Jr. and Navy Gunner’s Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul Hurley were honored this week as Tunnel to Towers Smart Home Recipients this week. The Foundation welcomed them into their brand-new mortgage-free smart homes. The Smart Home Program builds and adapts homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, allowing them to live more independently while honoring their service and sacrifice. Throughout the year, in honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the Foundation is delivering 343 mortgage-free homes to heroes and their families while continuing its efforts to eradicate veteran homelessness.

As Executive Director of the Pentagon Memorial Fund, I’m reminded that remembrance requires us to speak their names and share their stories, especially the stories of women whose lives were stolen by hatred and violence. Education is how we honor them. When we preserve individual stories with care and clarity, we strengthen our collective responsibility to remember, and to ensure such atrocities are never repeated. 🕯️
